Since its NCAA Division I debut in 2017, the University of Northern Iowa’s men’s Basketball team has been on the rise. The Panthers have made the playoffs three times in four years, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2019. The Coach
Union Basketball is on the rise, and much of the credit goes to head coach Nate Davis. In just his fourth season at the helm, Davis has turned a struggling program into a legitimate threat in the Missouri Valley Conference
Davis came to Union after a successful run as an Assistant Coach at Wichita State where he helped lead the Shockers to a share of the MVC regular season title in 2013. He inherited a Union team that had gone 8-22 the previous season and had won just nine conference games in the three seasons prior.
In his first season, Davis led the Dutchmen to a 14-16 record overall and a 9-9 mark in conference play Union improved to 17-13 overall and 12-6 in conference in his second season, and then made significant strides last year when they went 22-9 overall and 15-3 in conference play The Dutchmen won their first ever MVC Regular Season title and made their first appearance in the conference championship game.
This year, Union is off to another strong start with an 11-3 record overall and a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Dutchmen have already matched their win total from last year, and they still have more than half of their schedule remaining.
