The USC Upstate Baseball Team is a rising power in college baseball The team has made it to the NCAA tournament four times in the last five years, and they are always a threat to win the conference tournament The Spartans have a strong core of players returning from last year’s team, and they are looking to make a run at the College World Series this year. USC State Baseball is a team on the rise. Located in Spartanburg, SC, USC Upstate competes in Division I of the NCAA and is a member of the Big South Conference The team is currently coached by Mark Hogan, who has been at the helm since 2016. In his time as coach, Hogan has led USC Upstate to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2017 & 2018), including a trip to the Super Regionals in 2018. USC Upstate has also won two conference championships under Hogan (2017 & 2018).
The History of USC Upstate Baseball
USC State Baseball has a rich tradition dating back to 1967, when the team was founded as a club sport. The program quickly rose to prominence, winning back-to-back National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) titles in 1970 and 1971. In 1976, USC Upstate joined the NCAA Division II ranks and became a charter member of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).
Over the next four decades, USC Upstate would establish itself as one of the premier programs in Division II baseball The team won PBC regular season titles in 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2014. They also won the PBC Tournament title in 2001 and 2005, earning berths to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. In total, USC Upstate has appeared in the NCAA Division II Playoffs six times, with their best finish coming in 2005 when they advanced to the Elite Eight.
In 2016, USC Upstate made the move to Division I Baseball joining the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN). The team has continued to find success at the Division I level, winning ASUN regular season titles in 2018 and 2019. They also won the ASUN Tournament title in 2019, earning their first berth to the NCAA Division I Playoffs. In 2019, USC Upstate made history by becoming just the second team ever to win an ASUN Tournament game, defeating Clemson 6-5 in 10 innings.
USC State baseball has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a club sport. Today, the team is a perennial contender for conference championships and NCAA Playoff berths. With a bright future ahead, USC State baseball is a program on the rise!

They’ve got a great mix of experienced players and talented newcomers, and they’re definitely a team to watch out for.

The USC Upstate Baseball Team is a Division I college baseball team that competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The team is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina and plays its home games at Harley Park. The team is currently coached by Mike Piazza who has been at the helm since 2016.
The USC Upstate Baseball team has seen a great deal of success in recent years. In 2017, the team won the Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season championship, and in 2018, the team won the Atlantic Sun conference tournament championship. As a result of their successful 2018 season, the USC Upstate Baseball Team earned a berth in the 2018 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament where they defeated Florida State in the Tallahassee Regional to advance to the Super Regional round. Unfortunately, the team’s run came to an end when they lost to Arkansas in the Fayetteville Super Regional
Despite coming up just short of their ultimate goal, the USC State Baseball team’s run to the Super Regional round was a remarkable achievement for a team that is still relatively new to Division I competition. With Coach Piazza at the helm, it seems likely that the USC Upstate baseball team will continue to enjoy success in the years to come.
