Since George Welsh took over as Head Coach in 1982, the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team has been one of the best in the country. Under his leadership, the team has won four ACC Championships and made 14 trips to the NCAA tournament including five College World Series appearances.

Welsh retired after the 2001 season, and was succeeded by Brian O’Connor. In O’Connor’s 15 seasons at UVA, the Cavaliers have won six ACC championships and made 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament including four College World Series appearances.

The key to Virginia’s success on the diamond has been its Coaching Staff Welsh and O’Connor have built a staff of talented coaches who are able to develop players and prepare them for success at the next level.

Heading into the 2017 season, Virginia will be looking to make another run at a National Championship With a talented group of players and a coaching staff that is second to none, there is no reason to think that they can’t accomplish their goal.

The University of Virginia’s outdoor baseball facilities are some of the best in the country. The Cavaliers play their home games at Davenport Field, located just off Route 29 on the UVA campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. The field is named after former UVA baseball coach Moody Davenport. It has a capacity of 4,000 fans and features an all-turf infield. The facility also has a covered batting cage two bullpens, and a state-of-the-art lighting system.

The Uva Baseball Foundation: Supporting the Future of Uva Baseball

The Uva Baseball Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the Uva baseball program The Foundation provides funding for scholarships, facility improvements, and baseball operations.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors made up of alumni and friends of the program. The Board meets quarterly to discuss fundraising activities and strategic initiatives.

The Foundation raises money through annual giving, special events, and endowments. Annual giving provides the majority of funds raised each year and allows the Foundation to respond quickly to the needs of the Baseball Program

Special events include the Fall Classic Golf Tournament, A Night at the Plate gala, and catching clinics. These events provide an opportunity for alumni and fans to support the program while enjoying a fun event.

Endowments are a long-term way to support Uva baseball. Endowment gifts are invested and only the earnings are spent each year. This allows the endowment to grow over time and provide a source of income that is not dependent on annual giving levels.
