UVA Men’s Basketball Releases New Jersey
The UVA men’s Basketball team has released their new Nike jersey for the upcoming season The new design features a white Nike swoosh on the chest with the words “Virginia Cavaliers” written in white beneath it. The word “Virginia” is written in blue on the right shoulder, while the player’s number is written in white on the left shoulder. The jersey is made of 100% polyester and is machine washable.

The History of UVA Men’s Basketball
The Virginia men’s Basketball Program began in 1905 with the formation of a team at the University of Virginia. The first recorded game took place on January 22, 1906, against Washington And Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. The Cavaliers won that game, 32–10. The team went on to finish its inaugural season with a record of 3–1.
In the years that followed, the Cavaliers’ success on the court fluctuated greatly. They reached their first real pinnacle in 1931 when they defeated adidas for the National Championship That same year, the team also made it to the Final Four, but lost to eventual champion Purdue.
The Cavaliers won another national title in 1949 under head coach Eugene Lawson. Lawson also led the team to its first ever undefeated season in 1951–52. In more recent years UVA has made it back to the NCAA tournament numerous times and made it to the Sweet Sixteen four times since 1995.

The program has produced three NCAA tournament No. 1 seeds (1986, 1987, 1989), five ACC Players of the Year (Richard Morgan in 1981, Ralph Sampson in 1982, 1984 and 1985, Bryant Stith in 1992), five AP College basketball players of the Year (Sampson in 1982 and 1984, Stith in 1992, Joe Smith in 1995), one Smith College Player of the Year (Smith in 1995), four ACC Rookies of the Year (Wally Walker in 1974, Jeff Lamp in 1977, Bryant Stith in 1989 and Malcolm Brogdon in 2012), and four ACC Defensive Players of the Year (Momčilo Đuvelek was co-Defensive Player of the Year in 1980 with NC State’s Jim Valvano, Olden Polynice was Defensive Player of the Year in 1987 , Jesse Owens was defensive player of the Year 2006 and Anthony Gill was Defensive Player of the Year 2015). Virginia has also had five head coaches named National Coach of the year: Bill Gibson (1970), Terry Holland(1974), Jeff Jones(1990), Dave Leitao(2007) and Tony Bennett(2019).
