West Stokes Basketball: A Program on the Rise

Under the leadership of Head Coach Brad Selvaggi, the West Stokes Wildcats have rapidly become one of the Premier Basketball programs in North Carolina

Since taking over the program in 2013, Coach Selvaggi has led the Wildcats to four consecutive conference championships and three trips to the state playoffs, including a historic run to the Elite Eight in 2016.

With a core group of talented young players returning for the 2017-18 Season West Stokes is primed for another deep run in the playoffs. Be sure to catch them in action this winter!

West Stokes Basketball is a program on the rise. The team has seen success in recent years culminating in a trip to the state semifinals in 2019. The history of West Stokes basketball is one of competitiveness and success.

The program has its roots in the early days of the school, when it was known as King High School The basketball team was a powerhouse in the 1960s and 1970s, winning multiple conference championships and making deep runs in the state playoffs. Despite this success, the team was unable to win a state championship during this time.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the team experienced a down period, struggling to compete at the same level as before. However, this changed in the early 2000s when a new generation of talented players began to emerge. The team made a return to prominence, winning conference championships and making deep runs in the postseason.

The past decade has been the most successful in West Stokes history. The team has won multiple conference championships and made appearances in the state playoffs on a yearly basis. In 2019, the team made its first ever trip to the state semifinals. Despite coming up just short of their ultimate goal, this was a historic season for West Stokes Basketball.

The Current State of West Stokes Basketball

In recent years the West Stokes Basketball Program has seen a significant uptick in success.

Under the guidance of head coach Zach Williams, the Wildcats have transformed into one of the top teams in the state of North Carolina In 2019, West Stokes won a share of the conference title and made a deep run in the state playoffs.

This season, West Stokes is off to another strong start. The team is currently 12-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play With a talented group of players and a proven Head Coach the Wildcats appear to be poised for continued success in the years to come.

After winning only four games in the 2014-2015 season, the team has since improved their record to 18-7 in the 2017-2018 season With a young core of players and a Coaching Staff that believes in the team’s potential, the future of West Stokes basketball is looking bright.

The team’s improvement can be attributed to several factors. First and foremost, the team has benefited from a change in culture. When Head coach Garrett Stevens took over prior to the 2015-2016 season, he instilled a new level of discipline and accountability within the program. Players are expected to give their best effort at all times, both on and off the court. This has helped create a more positive and successful environment for the team.

In addition to a change in culture, the team has also seen an improvement in talent. In recent years, West Stokes has had several players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level. The fans of West Stokes Basketball are some of the most passionate and dedicated in the country. They have been with the program through thick and thin, and they continue to support the team through its ups and downs.

The Rivalries of West Stokes Basketball

The rivalry reached its peak in 2016 when the two teams met in the state championship game. West Stokes won the game, but East Forsyth has had the upper hand in the rivalry since then.

The team is led by senior point guard Jackson Smith, who is averaging 18 points per game Smith is a four-year starter and has been a key piece of the team’s success over the past few years. Other Key Players include juniors Tyler Holliday and Chase Martin, who are both averaging in double figures.
