What Are The NHL Divisions?

There are 4 NHL divisions: the Atlantic Division, the Metropolitan Division, the Central Division, and the Pacific Division.

Introduction

NHL divisions are used to group together teams in similar geographical areas. This helps to reduce travel costs and can create more evenly matched divisions. There are currently four divisions in the NHL: Eastern, Western, Central, and Pacific.

The Eastern Division is made up of teams from the eastern United States and Canada. The Western Division is made up of teams from the western United States and Canada. The Central Division is made up of teams from the Midwest United States. The Pacific Division is made up of teams from the western United States and Canada.

Each division is further divided into two conferences. The Eastern Conference is made up of the Eastern and Central Divisions, while the Western Conference is made up of the Western and Pacific Divisions.

There are four NHL divisions: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan. Each conference is divided into three divisions, and each division has five teams. The Pacific Division is in the Western Conference, the Central Division is in the Western Conference, and the Atlantic Division is in the Eastern Conference. The Metropolitan Division is in the Eastern Conference.

The Atlantic Division

The Atlantic Division is a division of the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Eastern Conference. It was created prior to the 1993–94 NHL season. For 2018–19, the NHL realigned their divisions, and as a result, the Atlantic Division absorbed the NHL’s former Northeast Division. The Atlantic Division currently has 8 teams: the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Metropolitan Division

In the 2013 NHL realignment, the Metropolitan Division was created as a hybrid of the former Atlantic and Southeast Divisions. It is also sometimes referred to as simply the Metro Division. The division’s name is derived from its location; it is predominantly located down the East Coast of the United States in metropolitan areas.

The Metropolitan Division is home to some of the most storied franchises in NHL history including the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Philadelphia Flyers. The division also features strong fan support in Washington, D.C., Carolina, and Columbus.

The Central Division

The Central Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. As part of the realignment, the former Midwest Division moved to the Central Division. The Central Division has been home to some of the most successful teams in recent NHL history. The Chicago Blackhawks have won 3 Stanley Cups since 2010, and the Detroit Red Wings have won 4 Cups since 1997.

Conclusion

To conclude, the NHL divisive realignment plan is an excellent way to maintain parity and make the playoffs more fair. It also benefits the fans by ensuring that all teams have an opportunity to win the Stanley Cup.
