John Madden’s Early Life
John Madden was born on April 10, 1936, in Austin, Texas. He was the middle child of five children. His father, Earl Stanley “Jock” Madden, was a district judge. His mother, Mary Elizabeth Wilkins, was a homemaker. John was raised in Daly City, California. He attended Jefferson High School, where he played football and baseball. After high school, he attended college at the University of California, Berkeley.

Unfortunately, injuries limited his playing time at Oregon and he left the school after just one year. He then transferred to Columbia Business School in New York City to study hotel administration.
