What Teams Are Going To The Nfl Playoffs?
Contents
The NFL playoffs are just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about which teams are going to make it to the big dance. Here’s a look at the teams that are most likely to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
NFL Basics
How the NFL playoffs work
NFL teams are not all created equal. The best teams during the regular season usually make it to the playoffs, where they have a chance to compete for the coveted Lombardi Trophy.
The NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the end of the regular season. The tournament consists of six rounds, with each round eliminating half of the remaining teams. The final round, known as the Super Bowl, is between the two remaining teams.
In order to make it to the playoffs, a team must first have a winning record during the regular season. The top seed in each conference (the team with the best record) gets a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The other seeds are matched up against each other in the first round, with the winners moving on to face the top seeds in the second round. This process continues until only two teams are left standing.
The NFL playoffs are an exciting time for fans of all ages, as they root for their favorite team to make a run at the Super Bowl title.
What teams are in the playoffs
As the regular season comes to a close, 12 teams have already clinched playoff spots, with the final four set to be determined in Week 17.
The AFC will see the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs earn first-round byes. The Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills will slug it out for the remaining two spots.
In the NFC, the Minnesota Vikings have clinched the conference’s top seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles will also earn a first-round bye as they sit in second place. The Los Angeles Rams are set for the third seed, but their position is not yet locked in. The New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers will battle it out for the final spot in Week 17.
AFC Playoff Picture
With only a few weeks left in the NFL season, the playoff picture is becoming clearer. In the AFC, the Patriots, Steelers, Jaguars, and Chiefs have clinched playoff berths. The Titans and Ravens are still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot. Let’s take a look at the playoff picture in the AFC.
AFC seeding
The American Football Conference (AFC) playoff seeding determines the schedule for each round of the AFC playoffs.
The four division winners and two wild card teams (the top two non-division winners with the best records) from each conference automatically qualify for the playoffs. Seeding is based on each team’s record in the current season, with ties broken as necessary.
In the first round, the division winner with the best record hosts the wild card team with the worst record, while the other division winner hosts the other wild card team. The winners of those games then proceed to face off against each other in the second round, called the divisional round.
The divisional round winners then face off against each other in the AFC Championship game, with a berth in Super Bowl LIII on the line.
AFC teams
The AFC Playoff Picture is the teams that are contending for a spot in the NFL Playoffs. There are four division winners and two wild card teams. The division winners are seeded 1-4 and the wild card teams are seeded 5-6. The top seed gets a bye in the first round and the divisional round is played at home sites. The conference championship is played at a neutral site.
1. New England Patriots (12-4) – AFC East champions
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-5) – AFC North champions
3. Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6) – AFC South champions
4. Kansas City Chiefs (10-6) – AFC West champions
5. Tennessee Titans (9-7) – Wild card team
6. Baltimore Ravens (9-7) – Wild card team
NFC Playoff Picture
As the regular NFL season comes to an end, we take a look at which teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs. In the NFC, the New Orleans Saints have clinched the number one seed and a first round bye. The Los Angeles Rams have also clinched a spot in the playoffs and are the number two seed. The other teams that have clinched a spot are the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, and the Minnesota Vikings.
NFC seeding
With only weeks left in the season, the NFC playoff picture is starting to take shape. The current seeding would have the New Orleans Saints (11-2) as the top seed, followed by the Los Angeles Rams (11-2), Chicago Bears (9-4), and Dallas Cowboys (8-5) as division winners. The wild card spots would then go to the Seattle Seahawks (8-5) and Minnesota Vikings (7-6).
NFC teams
The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. This conference and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), currently contain 16 teams each, making up a total of 32 teams in the NFL.
The NFC Playoff Picture shows the division standings, conference rankings, and playoff seedings for the 2020 NFL season. The NFC is made up of four divisions: East, West, North, and South. Each division has four teams, and each conference has two wild card spots for a total of six teams that make the playoffs from each conference.
The NFC playoff picture will be updated as results from Week 17 come in.
Super Bowl
The National Football League (NFL) playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Seven teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualify for the playoffs. A tie-breaking procedure exists if required.
Super Bowl teams
The two best teams from the National Football League (NFL) compete in the Super Bowl. The game is the biggest single-day sporting event in the United States. It is also one of the most watched television programs in the world.
Super Bowl location
The location of the Super Bowl is chosen by the NFL well in advance, usually three to five years before the game. The host city must have a suitable stadium that meets NFL standards, as well as available hotel rooms and other amenities for visitors.
The game is typically held on a Sunday in February or early March, and the exact date is set based on the NFL’s regular-season schedule. In recent years, the game has been played on the first Sunday in February.
The most recent Super Bowls have been held in these cities:
2020: Miami Gardens, Florida (Hard Rock Stadium)
2019: Atlanta, Georgia (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)
2018: Minneapolis, Minnesota (U.S. Bank Stadium)
2017: Houston, Texas (NRG Stadium)
