January 1996
Steve Austin won his first WWE Championship at the 1996 Royal Rumble, last eliminating Jake “The Snake” Roberts to become the new WWE Champion. This marked the beginning of Austin’s record-setting six WWE Championship reigns.
At the Royal Rumble
Stone Cold Steve Austin won his first WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble in January of 1999. He defeated The Rock in the main event to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career.
Defeated Bret Hart
Stone Cold Steve Austin became the WWE Champion for the first time on September 22, 1996, when he defeated Bret Hart at In Your House: Mind Games. This was also Bret Hart’s final match in the WWE before he left for WCW.
Won the WWE Championship
Stone Cold Steve Austin won the WWE Championship for the first time at WrestleMania XIV, defeating Shawn Michaels to become the WWF’s 13th WWE Champion. The match is widely considered one of the greatest in WrestleMania history.
