When Is The 2021 WWE Draft?

It’s that time of year again – the WWE Draft is just around the corner! Here’s everything you need to know about when it’s happening and who will be involved.

Introduction

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon announced today that the 2021 WWE Draft will take place on Friday, July 16. The WWE Draft will air live on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 C on FOX.

The WWE Draft determines which Superstars will compete for Raw and which will compete for SmackDown. The last WWE Draft took place in October 2019, and determined which brand each Superstar would compete for following WWE’s move to FOX.

This will be the first WWE Draft since the reintroduction of the Wild Card Rule in May 2019. Under the Wild Card Rule, up to four Superstars from either Raw or SmackDown can appear on the other brand’s show each week. The rule was originally introduced in May 2016 as a way to shake up the rosters of Raw and SmackDown, but was abolished less than a year later.

It was reintroduced in May 2019 following WWE’s move to FOX, and has been used sparingly since then. It remains to be seen how the Wild Card Rule will factor into the 2021 WWE Draft.

What are the benefits of the WWE Draft?

The WWE Draft is a process used by WWE to refresh its rosters for both its Raw and SmackDown brands. It is a semiannual event which takes place every spring and fall, in which WWE superstars are reassigned from one brand to the other. The 2021 WWE Draft will take place on October 11th, 2021 and will be the first draft to take place since 2019.

The main benefit of the WWE Draft is that it allows WWE to shake up its roster and produce new storylines. It also gives lesser known wrestlers a chance to be featured on Raw or SmackDown, and increase their profile within the company. In recent years, the WWE Draft has been used as a way to transition between the “WWE Universe” and the “WWE Network” eras.

What are the potential negatives of the WWE Draft?

There are a few potential negatives with the WWE Draft. One is that it could cause Superstars to become disgruntled if they are drafted to a brand that they don’t want to be on. For example, if someone is drafted to WWE SmackDown and they wanted to be on WWE RAW, they may not be happy with the situation. This could lead to them not working as hard or not being as motivated, which could have a negative impact on their in-ring performances.

Another downside of the WWE Draft is that it could create a situation where certain brands are significantly weaker than others. For example, if most of the top Superstars are drafted to one brand and the majority of the lower-tier Superstars are drafted to another brand, it’s going to create an imbalance. This could make one brand much more dominant than the other, which may not be what WWE is looking for.

The final potential negative with the WWE Draft is that it could lead to backstage politics. If certain Superstars are friends with people in high places (e.g., Vince McMahon, Triple H) then they may be more likely to get drafted to the brand of their choice instead of having to go through a fair and impartial draft process. This could lead to favoritism and nepotism, which would not be good for business.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the 2021 WWE Draft will most likely take place during the fall, most likely in October. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the date and location of the draft are subject to change.
