Deandre Ayton from Arizona was selected first overall by the Phoenix Suns as the consensus top prospect in the class; he became just fourth player from an NCAA Division I school ever to be selected as number one overall without previously being consensus collegiate player of the year or winning any significant individual award in college, joining LaRue Martin (1972), Joe Smith (1995), and Andrea Bargnani (2006).
