Which NBA Team Never Won a Championship?

The NBA Finals are upon us and the question on everyone’s mind is which NBA team never won a championship? The answer may surprise you.
The Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Clippers have not enjoyed much success in their history, never winning an NBA Championship.
The history of the team
The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Clippers began play as the Buffalo Braves in 1970 as one of three expansion teams, along with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers. They moved to San Diego in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers until 1984, when they moved to Los Angeles. Through much of their history, the franchise failed to see significant regular season or playoff success. The Clippers were frequently seen as an example of a perennial loser in American professional sports, drawing unfavorable comparisons to their geographically neighboring Los Angeles Lakers, who have been one of the NBA’s most successful teams since acquiring longtime star Kobe Bryant in 1996.
The franchise was frequently embroiled in controversies off the court. Owner Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA for life in April 2014 after making racist remarks during a conversation with his girlfriend that were recorded and published. In total, nine head coaches have been relieved of their duties during Sterling’s ownership tenure, which is by far the longest such streak of any NBA franchise over that period (the next longest is three).
It wasn’t until 2012 that the team enjoyed significant success under new head coach and president Doc Rivers, winning its first division title since 2006-07 and qualifying for the playoffs for only the second time since 1997-98; this culminated with a berth into the Conference Finals for just their second time since moving to LA in 1984-85 (and first time since 2006), which they lost to eventual NBA champions, the San Antonio Spurs 4–0. Despite being downright dreadful for much of their history while sharing Staples Center with fellow Angeleno sports teams such as football’s Rams and soccer’s Galaxy, they have shown recent signs of respectability by clinching berths into six straight postseasons (2012–17), although they have failed to win a playoff series since moving from San Diego.
Why they have never won a championship
There are a number of reasons why the Los Angeles Clippers have never won a championship. One reason is that they have only been in existence since 1970, when they were founded as an expansion team. They have only made it to the NBA Finals once, in 1974, and they lost that series to the Boston Celtics.
Another reason is that they have not always been a very good team. In fact, they did not make the playoffs in their first 23 years of existence! It was not until 1993 that they finally had a winning record, and it was not until 1997 that they made the playoffs again. Since then, they have been a good team but have never been great enough to make it to the Finals again.
One final reason is that they have always had to share Southern California with the much more successful Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in NBA history, with 16 championships to their name. They have also won more titles than any other team in any other major professional sport in North America. So it’s no wonder that the Clippers are often overshadowed by their more successful rivals.
The Charlotte Hornets
The history of the team
The Charlotte Hornets are an American professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hornets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team is largely owned by former NBA player Michael Jordan, who acquired controlling interest in the team in 2010. The Hornets play their home games at the Spectrum Center in Uptown Charlotte.
The original Hornets franchise was established in 1988 as an expansion team, owned by George Shinn. In 2002, Shinn’s franchise relocated to New Orleans and became the New Orleans Hornets. In 2004, the NBA established the Charlotte Bobcats, which was regarded as a new expansion team at the time. In 2013, the New Orleans’ franchise announced it would rebrand itself as the New Orleans Pelicans; subsequently, the Bobcats were renamed to the Charlotte Hornets for the 2014–15 season.

In 2002, the Hornets changed their colors from teal and purple to green and purple, and changed their name to the Charlotte Bobcats; they reverted to their previous branding in 2014, when they took back their original name and colors.
Despite having some of the best players in NBA history, such as Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, Larry Johnson and Muggsy Bogues, the Charlotte Hornets have never won an NBA Championship.
The Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets is a professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center. The team was established in 1967 as a charter franchise of the NBA’s rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). They played four seasons in New York before moving to New Jersey in 1977 and changing their name to the New Jersey Nets. During their time in New Jersey, the Nets won two ABA championships (in 1974 and 1976). The Nets then moved back to New York in 2012 and were renamed the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center. They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the New York Knicks.
The team was established in 1967 as a charter franchise of the NBA’s rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). They played their home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island until 1977, when they moved to New Jersey and played at what is now known as Prudential Center in Newark. During their time in that state, the Nets won two ABA championships (in 1974 and 1976). In 1976, the ABA merged with the NBA, and then- Nets owner Simon Wolfenstein moved the team to Long Island as part of a deal that saw three other ABA teams (the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, and Denver Nuggets) join the NBA as well.
The Nets played four seasons on Long Island before relocating to New Jersey again in 1981 and playing their home games at Brendan Byrne Arena (later renamed Continental Airlines Arena and Izod Center) in East Rutherford until 2012. During their time there, they reached the playoffs nine times under head coaches Chuck Daly, Kevin Loughery, Bill Fitch, Byron Scott, Don Casey, Lawrence Frank, Avery Johnson, and P. J. Carlesimo; however they only made it past round one once during that time span (from 2002 to 2003 under Byron Scott). They reached Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals twice during that time span; first losing to eventual conference champions Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James in 2007 followed by eventual conference champions Boston Celtics led by Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in 2008 despite holding a 3–1 lead against them both times respectively.[8][9] Including their time back on Long Island from 2012–2016 (when they were known as simply “the Brooklyn Nets”), this makes them one of only two NBA teams who have never advanced past round two since 1982 when postseason was expanded from best-of-five to best-of-seven rounds

They played two seasons there before returning to Brooklyn in 2015.
The Nets have never won an NBA championship, but were successful in their first season back in Brooklyn, making it all the way to the Eastern Conference semifinals before losing to the eventual champion Miami Heat.
