Which NBA Team Will Draft You?

The answer to this question depends on a number of factors, including your skillset, shooting percentage, and playing style.

The Process

You’ve worked hard all your life to get to this point. You’ve put in the extra hours in the gym and studying film. You’ve dreamed of this moment. Now it’s finally here. You’re about to find out which NBA team will draft you.

The NBA Draft Lottery

The NBA Draft Lottery is an annual event held by the National Basketball Association (NBA), in which the teams who did not make the playoffs that year participate in a lottery process to determine the draft order in the NBA draft. The lottery originally determined only the first three picks of the draft, but now persons with an opportunity to be selected at any position in the first round may be present.

The current NBA Draft Lottery system was implemented before the 1985 NBA Draft and has been tweaked several times since, most notably when four balls were added to reduce tanking, but it wasn’t until 2019 that it reached its current form. This system was designed to give all non-playoff teams an equal opportunity at winning the No. 1 pick while also penalizing teams with worse records more. It’s working as intended, as each team’s odds are now more or less in line with its record: The team with the worst record has a 25 percent chance at No. 1, while even the 10th-worst team still has a chance (5.3 percent) at landing a top-four pick.

The NBA Draft Lottery is a televised event, usually held about a week before the actual draft. The format of the lottery has varied since its inception; currently, 14 Ping-Pong balls numbered 1 through 14 are placed into a lottery machine. There are 1,001 possible combinations when four balls are drawn out of 14, without regard to their order of selection; thus, each participating team in 2019 had a 0.1 percent (1/1,000) chance of obtaining each of those combinations and receiving one particular set of four numbers corresponding to one particular combination—and thus having their final position for that year’s draft conveyed by those numbers—when those particular four numbers were drawn out of that lottery machine on television on that occasion during that event.”

The NBA Draft Combine

The NBA draft combine is an annual event where college basketball players (and international players) are measured and evaluated in several combine-style tests by representatives from all 30 NBA teams. The event is organized by the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Players attend the combine to showcase their skills and abilities in hopes of being drafted by an NBA team. In addition to being measured and evaluated in several combine-style tests, players also participate in interviews with teams and meet with medical staffs.

The information gathered at the combine helps teams make decisions about which players to draft. The combine usually takes place in May, prior to the NBA draft.

During the 2020 NBA draft combine, players will be tested in the following areas:

-Height without shoes
-Wingspan
-Standing reach
-Body fat %
-Hand length
-Hand width
-[Bench press (maximum number of repetitions at 185 pounds)](https://www.nba.com/news/nba-draft-combine-to-feature-bench-press)

The NBA Draft

The NBA Draft is an annual event in which the 30 teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) each select two young players who have never previously been affiliated with an NBA team. These players are known as “rookies.”

The draft is held every year in late June. In order to be eligible for the draft, a player must be at least 19 years old and must have finished his or her college eligibility.

Players who meet these criteria but who are not selected in the draft become “undrafted free agents” and are free to sign with any NBA team.

The Draft Lottery is used to determine which team will receive the first overall pick in the draft.

The lottery system was introduced prior to the 1985 Draft in order to give teams with the worst records a better chance of receiving high draft picks.

Under the current system, 14 lottery balls are placed into a drum. There are 1,000 different combinations that can come up, and those combinations correspond to different probabilities for each team receiving the first overall pick.
*The team with the worst record has a 25 percent chance of receiving the first overall pick, while the team with the best record has only a 0.5 percent chance of doing so.

Your NBA Team

The lottery teams

The NBA draft lottery is an annual event held by the National Basketball Association (NBA), in which the teams who did not make the playoffs that year participate in a lottery process to determine the draft order in the NBA draft. The NBA draft lottery started in 1985. In the past, the draft lottery was conducted in a private room in which representatives of the seven non-playoff teams would draw balls out of a hopper that would correspond to different picks in the draft. The team with the lowest record would have had the most chances (or highest probability) of getting the first pick. The modern format features 14 ping-pong balls, numbered 1 through 14, which are assigned to each of the 14 non-playoff teams. Four balls are drawn from these, and those four balls correspond to 1st through 4th picks.

The non-lottery teams

As we get closer to the NBA Draft, more and more projections are coming out about which players will go where.

One of the more fun things to do is to look at where the mock drafts have you going and what team would be the best fit for you.

So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the non-lottery teams and which one would be the best fit for you.

Atlanta Hawks: The Hawks are a young team on the rise with a lot of good young players. They also have a lot of draft picks and are always looking to add more talent. You would be joining a team on the rise that is looking to add more pieces to make a run at a playoff spot.

Boston Celtics: The Celtics are one of the most storied franchises in NBA history. They have a lot of good young players and are always contenders. You would be joining a team with high expectations and a chance to win right away.

Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavaliers are a young team that is rebuilding after losing LeBron James. They have some good young players, but they are still a few years away from contending. You would be joining a team that is in the middle of a rebuild, but has some good pieces in place.

Dallas Mavericks: The Mavericks are an experienced team that is always looking to compete for a championship. They have a lot of good players, but they are getting older and may not be able to compete at the highest level for much longer. You would be joining a team that is still contending, but may not be for much longer.

Denver Nuggets: The Nuggets are an up-and-coming team with some very good young players. They missed out on the playoffs last year, but they are expected to make a run at it this year. You would be joining a team on the rise that has high expectations for this season.

The teams that didn’t make the playoffs

There are a few teams that didn’t make the playoffs this year, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still looking to add young talent to their rosters. Here are a few of the teams that could be interested in drafting you.

-Atlanta Hawks: The Hawks finished the season with the worst record in the NBA, so they’ll have a good chance at getting one of the top picks in the draft. They’re a young team with a lot of potential, so you could be a big part of their future if you’re drafted by them.
-Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year, but they’re hoping that will change next season. They have a young core of players, and they could use another talented player like you to help them get back to winning ways.
-New York Knicks: The Knicks also missed the playoffs this year, but they’re hoping to turn things around next season. They have a lot of young talent on their roster, so you could be a key piece in their future if you’re drafted by them.

These factors will all play into which organization believes you can help them win now or in the future. Below is a list of the type of player each NBA team is looking for.

-Boston Celtics: The Celtics are a team in transition. They are trying to get younger and more athletic. They are also looking for players that can come in and contribute right away.

-Brooklyn Nets: The Nets are a team on the rise. They have young talent and are looking for players that can complement that talent. They want players that can score, but they are also looking for players that can defend and rebound.

-Charlotte Hornets: The Hornets are a team in transition. They are trying to get younger and more athletic. They want players that can come in and contribute right away, but they are also looking for players with the potential to develop into something more.

-Chicago Bulls: The Bulls are a veteran team with playoff aspirations. They need role players that can come in and provide energy and defense off the bench.
