AFC

Arizona Cardinals- The Cardinals had an up and down season. They started off hot, winning their first 4 games. However, they then proceeded to lose 8 of their next 10. They managed to squeak into the playoffs as the last seed in the NFC.

Carolina Panthers- The Panthers also had an up and down season. They started off 1-3, but then won 7 of their next 8 games. Like the Cardinals, they also managed to squeak into the playoffs as the last seed in the NFC.

Cincinnati Bengals- The Bengals were one of the most consistent teams in the NFL this season. They started off 4-0 and never looked back, winning their division with a 12-4 record.

Houston Texans- The Texans were another team that was very consistent this season. They finished with a 9-7 record, but it was good enough to win their division.

Indianapolis Colts- The Colts started off slow, going 2-3 in their first 5 games. However, they then went on a tear, winning 9 of their last 11 games. This earned them a first round bye in the playoffs.

NFC

The NFC playoff field is set, and it’s loaded with familiar faces. The Packers, Seahawks, Cowboys and Falcons all made it back to the dance, while the Lions snuck in as a wild card.

But there are some new blood in the mix as well. The Giants are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2011, while the Dolphins are making their first appearance since 2008.

Here’s a look at how all 12 teams got here:

NFC:
1. Dallas Cowboys (13-3): The Cowboys ran away with the NFC East, thanks to a balanced offense (fifth in points scored) and a stingy defense (sixth in points allowed). They’ll be looking to return to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1995.

2. Atlanta Falcons (11-5): The Falcons struggled down the stretch, losing four of their last six games. But they held on to win the NFC South and earn a first-round bye. They’ll be looking to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1999.

3. Seattle Seahawks (10-5-1): The Seahawks had to sweat out a wild-card berth on the final weekend of the season, but they ultimately secured the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs. They’ll be looking to return to the Super Bowl for the second straight year.

4. Green Bay Packers (10-6): The Packers had an up-and-down season but still managed to win 10 games and earn a spot in the playoffs. They’ll be looking to make a run at their fifth Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

What’s Next?

Well the NFL playoffs are now down to just 4 teams. The New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs. It was a interesting season to say the least.

AFC

In the AFC, the Patriots, Steelers, Jaguars, and Chiefs all won their respective divisional round games and will be moving on to the conference championship games. The Patriots will be playing the Jaguars, and the Steelers will be playing the Chiefs.

NFC

The NFC playoff field is set, and it’s a loaded one. The Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks all have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, while the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings are no slouches, either.

In the AFC, the Patriots are still the team to beat, but they’ll have their hands full with a surging Chargers squad that features one of the best young quarterbacks in the league in Justin Herbert. The Kansas City Chiefs should also be in the mix, as they always are under head coach Andy Reid.

So who’s going to come out on top? We’ll find out soon enough. But in the meantime, let’s take a closer look at each of the eight teams that are still alive in the hunt for a Lombardi Trophy.
