WWE Stars Who Died in 2020

Perro Aguayo Jr.

On March 21, 2020, Mexican professional wrestler Joaquín Ramírez Ortíz, better known by the ring name Perro Aguayo Jr., died after suffering an accidental fall in a match in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. He was 35 years old.

Born into a wrestling family—his father was the legendary luchador Perro Aguayo, and his uncle is Dos Caras Sr.—Aguayo Jr. made his professional debut in 1999. He quickly rose to prominence in the Mexican wrestling scene, winning numerous championships and becoming one of the most popular luchadores in the country.

In 2015, Aguayo Jr. made his debut in WWE’s developmental brand NXT, where he competed in several high-profile matches before returning to Mexico in 2016.

Aguayo Jr.’s death sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, with many of his fellow wrestlers taking to social media to express their condolences.

Brian Christopher

Christopher passed away on July 29, 2018 at the age of 46. He was best known for his time in WWE as Grandmaster Sexay, one half of the tag team Too Cool. He was also a one-time Hardcore Champion in WWE.

Hana Kimura

Japanese professional wrestler and mixed martial artist Hana Kimura died on May 23, 2020, at the age of 22. Kimura was a cast member of the Netflix reality television show Terrace House: Tokyo.

Kimura’s cause of death was not immediately known, but a post on her official Twitter account pointed to cyberbullying as a possible factor. In the days leading up to her death, Kimura had been subjected to a series of hateful and misogynistic messages on social media.

WWE released a statement following Kimura’s death, calling her an “extraordinary performer” with “a great deal of potential.” WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon also tweeted that she was “saddened & shocked” by Kimura’s death.

Shad Gaspard

Shad Gaspard was an American professional wrestler, actor, and bodyguard. He was best known for his time with WWE under the ring name JTG. He died on May 17, 2020, after disappearing while swimming at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
