With the NBA All-Star break upon us, we take a look at which player has the most All-Star MVP awards in history.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is a retired American basketball player, businessman, and principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets. He played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. His biography on the official NBA website states: “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.” Jordan was one of the most effectively marketed athletes of his generation and was considered instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.
6-time All Star
Jordan was selected for the All-Star team a record 14 times, including 12 consecutive appearances from 1986 to 1998. He was named the All-Star MVP a record-tying four times (1988, 1996, 1998, 2002), sharing the honor with Bob Pettit. He also shares the NBA records for having been namedNBA Defensive Player of the Year nine times and winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Jordan is also one of only two players in NBA history (the other being Wes Unseld) to have won both the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year Awards in the same season (1988–89).

Kobe Bryant has the most All Star MVP Awards of any player in NBA history. He was named the MVP of the All Star game in 2009 and 2010. He is also the only player to have been named the MVP in three straight All Star games. Kobe is a five-time NBA champion and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
18-time All Star
Kobe Bryant was an 18-time All Star, which is the second-most in NBA history behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He was also a 12-time member of the All-NBA First Team, which ties him with Karl Malone for the most ever. He was a four-time member of the Second Team and a two-time member of the Third Team. He was also selected to 15 NBA All-Defensive Teams, which is the second most all time behind only Kevin Garnett.
4-time All Star MVP
Kobe Bryant was a firepower shooting guard who played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA directly from high school, and he quickly became one of the league’s most prolific scorers. A versatile player, Bryant was also a reliable defender and an accurate three-point shooter. He helped lead the Lakers to NBA championships in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, and 2010. In 2008 he was named Most Valuable Player of the NBA Finals.
Over his storied career, Kobe was named an All-Star 18 times and earned MVP honors four times. He won two Olympic gold medals as a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team in 2008 and 2012. Kobe retired from the NBA in 2016 as the league’s third all-time leading scorer with 33,643 points. He died tragically in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020.
LeBron James
LeBron James has the most NBA All Star MVP Awards with four. He was first given the award in 2006 and then again in 2008. He won back-to-back MVPs in 2009 and 2010. He most recently won the award in 2018.
