History
The University of Miami’s first baseball team was fielded in 1926. The team played their first game against Rollins College, winning 9-3. Under his direction, Miami reached the College World Series for the first time in school history in 1950. In 1952, Harding led Miami to a second CWS appearance. Despite being eliminated in the semi-final round, this would be the last time that Rollins would ever defeat Miami on the diamond.
Under head coach Ron Fraser, who took over in 1963, Miami became a national power. They reached the CWS 12 times in his 30 seasons as head coach and won the title three times (1982, 1985, 1999). Fraser retired after the 1992 season and was succeeded by Jim Morris. Morris guided the program to two more national championships (2001, 2002) in his eleven seasons as head coach.
The University of Miami has had 66 players drafted in the MLB Draft and 12 who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball (MLB). As of July 2017, there are 11 former Hurricanes playing in MLB.
