Geoffrion was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Bertram and Marjorie Geoffrion. His father had been a star player in the 1920s for the Montreal Canadiens, and was later inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame Bert Geoffrion died when Bernie was 15 years old.
