After another wild and eventful NFL season, the question on everyone’s mind is: who is this year’s NFL MVP?

Tom Brady

Tom Brady is an American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He is one of only two players to have won five Super Bowls (the other being Charles Haley), and he is the only player to have won them with three different teams: the New England Patriots (2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, and 2016), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020), and the San Francisco 49ers (2012). The only quarterback to win a Super Bowl in his first season as a starter, Brady led the Patriots to victory in Super Bowl XXXVI, throwing for 145 yards and a touchdown en route to being named Super Bowl MVP. He followed that up by winning Super Bowl MVP again after leading the Patriots to a come-from-behind victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Brady won his third consecutive Super Bowl MVP award after leading the Patriots to another 34–28 overtime victory against the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. Brady’s fourth Super Bowl MVP award came after he led the Patriots to a 28–24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.

Aaron Rodgers

The NFL MVP is not just the best player in the league, but the one whose performance impacted the game the most. This year, that player is unquestionably Aaron Rodgers. The Packers quarterback has been nothing short of incredible this season, leading his team to a 13-3 record and a first-round bye in the playoffs. He’s thrown for 4,433 yards and 45 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. He’s also rushed for four touchdowns. Simply put, he’s been the best player in the league.

Rodgers was born in Chico, California, the son of Darla Leigh (née Pitts) and Edward Wesley Rodgers. He is of Irish descent on his father’s side, and of British Isles ancestry on his mother’s side. His father played football for Butte College. Rodgers’ paternal great-grandfather, George Edward “Potsy” Irwin, was a prominent NFL player in the 1920s and 1930s who intended to name Rodgers’ older brother after him; however, when his wife said she preferred “George” over “Potsy”, Potsy agreed to let her name him instead. Consequently, the young Aaron was nicknamed by friends “A-Rod”, with the “-rod” suffix being added as Rodgers progressed through grade school which eventually led to simply “Rodgers”.

Drew Brees

The National Football League’s Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is an annual National Football League (NFL) award given by various media outlets to a player in the NFL. The recipient of the award is usually announced at the NFL Honors, a ceremonial event held prior to the Super Bowl. As of 2019, the most recent recipient of the award is Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints.

He had a successful college career at Purdue University, where he set two NCAA records, and was chosen by the San Diego Chargers with the first pick in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He left college as one of the most decorated players in Purdue and Big Ten Conference history. As a Charger, he proved himself to be a quality starting quarterback, but was ultimately unhappy with his limited opportunities on a team with poor offensive line play. He signed with the Saints as a free agent in 2006, where he has played ever since.

Brees has been selected to 11 Pro Bowls – tied with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning for the most ever by a quarterback – and was named Super Bowl XLIV MVP after leading the Saints to victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He has led the league in passing yards seven times – tied for second-most all-time behind only Brady – and passing touchdowns five times. In 2019, he became only the second player after Brett Favre to achieve 80,000 career passing yards and joined Manning as only the second player to achieve 5,000 completions.
