At Survivor Series on November 19 however Strowman emerged victorious against both Lesnar and Kane after pinning Kane following a running powerslam through a broadcast table. In January 2018 it was announced that Strowman would get his Universal Championship match against Lesnar at Royal Rumble later that month where he was again unsuccessful in winning the championship. At Fastlane on March 11th Strowman teamed up with fellow former members of The Wyatt Family Luke Harper and Erick Rowan and defeated The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) with Strowman pinning Rollins following a Running Powerslam thus earning himself another Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar later that month which he lost via pinfall despite putting up a good fight due to making Lesnar bleed heavily from above his right eye throughout most of the match thus marking the first time ever that Brock Lesnar had bled during a WWE match since returning in 2012 as well as signifying how badly damaged he was by Strowman’s offense throughout most of their encounter..

In early October 2019, Reigns announced on an episode of Raw that he had been battling leukemia for eleven years and would be immediately relinquishing the Universal Championship and taking a leave of absence from WWE.
