The Eastern Conference Finals

The Eastern Conference Finals was a best-of-seven series played between the Detroit Pistons, who had the best record in the conference, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pistons won the series, four games to two.

The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, met the Boston Celtics, led by Kevin Garnett, in the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2007 NBA Playoffs. The Celtics had won the season series 2-1. The best of seven series began on May 20, 2007 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.

The Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are a professional basketball team based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Pistons compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The franchise was founded in Fort Wayne, Indiana as the Fort Wayne (later Detroit) Zollner Pistons, a member of the National Basketball League (NBL) where it won two NBL championships: in 1944 and 1945. The Pistons later joined the Basketball Association of America (BAA) where it won one BAA championship in 1948. It then won four more championships: two NBA Finals (in 1989 and 1990) and two NBA Championships (in 2004 and 2005).

The Western Conference Finals

The Western Conference Finals was a best-of-seven playoff series played between the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz. The Jazz won the series 4-2, but the Spurs won the first game of the series.

The San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The Spurs are one of four former American Basketball Association teams to remain intact in the NBA after the 1976 ABA–NBA merger and are the only former ABA team to have won an NBA championship. The Spurs’ five NBA championships—in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014—are the fourth most in history behind only the Boston Celtics (17), Los Angeles Lakers (16), and Chicago Bulls (6). As of April 2020, the Spurs rank fourth among active franchises for the highest winning percentage in NBA history.

The Spurs have made 22 postseason appearances since 1969, including 18 consecutive seasons from 1998 until 2016; this is the longest active streak among all 30 current NBA teams. They have garnered 20 division titles during that time along with seven appearances in their conference’s championship game (only failing to do so thrice). From 1999–2000 to 2016–17, since adding Tim Duncan to their starting lineup, they advanced to advance to at least the Conference Finals 11 out of 17 times: winning five championships during that time frame.

The Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz made it to the Western Conference Finals in 2007, but they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs. The Jazz had a good season overall, finishing with a record of 51-31. Their leading scorer was Andrei Kirilenko, who averaged 15.2 points per game.
