Who’s Playing Tonight in the NBA?

If you’re a basketball fan, you probably want to know who’s playing tonight in the NBA. Here’s a quick rundown of the games and what to watch for.

The teams

The Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association, as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

The franchise began with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League. The new team began playing in Minneapolis, calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers in honor of the state’s nickname, “Land of 10,000 Lakes”. Initially a member of the NBL, the Lakers won the 1948 NBL championship before joining the rival Basketball Association of America, where they would win five of their next six championships after changing leagues. In 1950, at 33 years old, head coach John Kundla became NBA Coach of Destiny when he led Minneosta to their first ever NBA Championship victory.

Led by center George Mikan, who is described by Sun-Times media columnist Michael Wilbon as “the NBA’s first superstar”, and longtime teammates Jim Pollard and Herm Schaefer, they dominated their competitors throughout Minneapolis’ eight-year history in basketball’s major league. After failing to capture a championship between 1959 and 1968 when they commonly faced stiff competition such as Wilt Chamberlain’s Philadelphia 76ers teams featuring star players like Richie Guerin and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Bill Russell’s Boston Celtics dynasty that won eight titles in a row during that timespan; Jerry West joined forces with Gail Goodrich during 1968–69 season forming one of history’s most potent backcourts ever witnessed in NBA which helped take Lakers to a record 33 wins against only 19 losses that season leading to their first ever Finals appearance since 1954 where they ultimately lost to Chamberlain and his Sixers 4–2 despite holding homecourt advantage for that series; finally acquiring critical puzzle piece in seven-foot-two-inch (2.18 m) center Wilt Chamberlain as result of intra-league draft during summer of 1968 which completely transformed them into legitimate title contenders for first time since moving to Los Angeles giving them what was considered by some pundits at that time as greatest starting lineup ever assembled which included all five starters being named to either that season’s All-NBA First or Second Teams while also becoming only team during 60s decade to ever have three different players averaging 20 or more points per game on same roster (Goodrich – 25.9 PPG; West – 29.1 PPG & Chamberlain – 24 PPG) en route to capturing 1969 NBA championship against Atlanta Hawks led by Pete Maravich which resulted in Laker franchise winning its very first title while located in Southern California and also marked beginning what would become one decades long intense rivalry between those two teams; although Hawks would return back for rematch next year where they avenged previous year’s defeat by defeating Los Angeles 4 games to 2 becoming only team besides Cavaliers/Warriors/Spurs since 1960s merger between NBL & BAA who had managed to beat them back–to–back Finals despite losing homecourt advantage on both occasions but nonetheless cementing themselves as one best teams ever assembled up until that point giving them combined regular season & playoff record 171–63 (.731) over span two seasons which still stands today as best two year run any team has had regular season record -wise since merger between those two leagues occurred nearly 50 years ago.

They then retroactively applied that division win to their 2011–12 season record since they had finished it second-best behind only that2012 championship-winning Lakers team. As of 2019, they have yet to return to that level of success; however they are currently ranked 2nd in their division behind only powerhouse Golden State Warriors while boasting one of the best rosters in recent memory with All-Star players such All-NBA caliber small forward Kawhi Leonard and point guard Paul George
