Mason Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired, and the Packers beat the San Francisco 49ers 33-30 on Monday night.
Crosby’s kick capped a wild finish in which the Packers (4-1) blew most of a 30-23 lead before rallying for the win.
The Niners (0-5) took advantage of two special teams gaffes by the Packers to take a 30-29 lead with 1:07 remaining. But Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay on a crucial six-play, 56-yard drive to set up Crosby’s winner.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the team began play in 1929 as an independent professional team. For the 1930 season, the Spartans formally joined the NFL as the other area independents folded because of the Great Depression. Despite success within the NFL, they could not survive financially and relocated to Detroit for the 1934 season.
The Lions have won four NFL Championships (1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957) while winning 15 divisional titles (1935–38, 1949, 1952–53, 1957–58, 1970–71, 1974-75,, 1991-93 1995-97). However they have advanced to four NFC Championship Games: 1992 played at Candlestick Park against San Francisco which they lost 30–14; 1991 played at Lambeau Field against Washington which they also lost 41-10; and 1983 played at RFK Stadium also against Washington who they again lost 31-17. In 1993 after winning their first ten games of that season before losing their final four to finish 10-4 that year for head coach Wayne Fontes before losing to Dallas 38-6 during Wild Card Weekend at Texas Stadium on New Year’s Eve day that year. After back to back 9-7 seasons in 1994 & 1995 under Fontes where both times they finished second place behind Green Bay who won NFC Central titles those two years but made playoffs both times as wild card teams but failed to win a game both times

The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of strict parity between large and small markets. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan, before joining the American Professional Football Association (APFA), organized by Canton Bulldogs owner Ralph Hay in 1920; that year, they also began play as an independent club. The club was a dominant force in early professional football, winning three straight NFL Championships from 1929 to 1931.
