The teams

There are four teams playing in the NBA today. The first game is between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. The second game is between the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association , as a member of the league’s Western Conference in the Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association. The franchise began with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League . The new team began calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers . A member of NBL, NBA and Basketball Association of America ,the Lakers won five NBA Championships — 1948 , 1949 , 1950 , 1952 , and 1953 . After relocating to Los Angeles, the team won five more championships in 1962 1963 1964 1965 and 1966 . With Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal leading one dynasty and Jerry West , Wilt Chamberlain , Kareem Abdul-Jabbar another, they are one of only two franchises to win at least fifteen titles since 1947.

Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are an American professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team play their home games at TD Garden, which they share with the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Boston Bruins. The Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history; as of 2019, they have won 22 division titles, including 21 of 29 in the division’s existence since 1972, and own 32nd titles overall, which ranks fourth in NBA history behind only Los Angeles Lakers(42), Chicago Bulls(34), and San Antonio Spurs(33). They have played their home games at TD Garden since 1995.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are a professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The Heat play their home games at American Airlines Arena, and have won three NBA championships.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bucks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and play at the Fiserv Forum. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl was the long-time owner of the team, but on April 16, 2014, a group led by billionaire hedge fund managers Wes Edens and Marc Lasry agreed to purchase a majority interest in the team from Kohl, a sale which was approved by the owners of the NBA and its Board of Governors one month later on May 16. The new owners appointed Peter Feigin as the team president.

The players

LeBron James

Small forward LeBron James has played in the NBA for 17 seasons, currently with the Los Angeles Lakers. Regarded as one of the greatest basketball players in history, he has won four NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, and two Olympic gold medals. James has also been selected to thirteen NBA All-Star teams and has been named All-NBA twelve times. He won his first NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012, and reached the NBA Finals eight times in ten seasons.

Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Anthony Leonard (/kəˈwaɪ/ kay-wy; born June 29, 1991) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played two seasons of college basketball for San Diego State University, and was named a consensus second-team All-American as a sophomore. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but was traded to the San Antonio Spurs on draft night.

Leonard won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014, and was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) after averaging 17.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for the series. He was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016, becoming just the third player to win consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards since it was first awarded to Sidney Moncrief in 1983 and 1984. He has been selected to three NBA All-Star teams and two All-NBA teams.

In 2019, he led Toronto to their first ever NBA Championship defeating Golden State in six games where he again averaged 26 points per game along with 7 rebounds on his way to being named Finals MVP for a second time, joining Mikhail Prokhorov as only one of two players ever to have won multiple Finals MVPs while not being drafted first overall or within the Top 5 picks in their respective drafts making him one of only seven players with multiple Finals MVPs in their careers

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo was born on December 6, 1994, in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian parents. His father, Charles, played professionally in Greece, and his mother, Veronica, was a stay-at-home mom. He has three older brothers—Thanasis, Kostas, and Alexandros—and a younger sister, Marika. Giannis started playing organized basketball at age 13. At age 15 he was 6 feet tall; by age 17 he was 6’9″. He did not begin playing competitively in the United States until he was 18.

Giannis attended the European Centre for Excellence in Basketball in Cannet-Roubaix, France. In 2012 he joined the Greek professional club Filathlitikos B.C.. He played there for one season before declaring for the 2013 NBA draft.

In the 2013 NBA draft, Giannis was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 15th overall pick. He became the first player drafted in the NBA who had been born in Greece.

Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler IV (born September 14, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After being traded from the Houston Rockets in 2012, he was named an NBA All-Star in 2015 and 2016. He has also been selected to the All-NBA Defensive Teams twice, in 2015 and 2016.
