In 1946, Johnson started his own big band and orchestra called “Weegee’s Musical Wonders” which included well-known jazz musicians such as Sidney Bechet, Pee Wee Russell, Muggsy Spanier, Joe Sullivan, Jess Stacy, Frank Teschemacher, Tony Parenti, and Wilbur Sweatman.[1] In 1947 Johnson and his band recorded four songs for Continental Records: “Weegee”, “Weary Blues”, ” Harlem Cameo”, and “That Da Da Strain”. All four songs were released on a 78 rpm record.[2]
