Who Will Win Rookie of the Year in the NBA 2020 Season?
It’s hard to say who will win rookie of the year in the NBA 2020 season.
There are a lot of talented rookies, but it’s hard to know who will have the best season.
We’ll have to wait and see who will win this prestigious award.
Zion Williamson
There is no doubt that Zion Williamson is one of the most electrifying players in the NBA. The Pelicans star is averaging 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from 3-point range. The 19-year-old has also been a force on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 2.2 blocks per game.
Ja Morant
At the start of the season, it was Zion Williamson who was supposed to run away with the Rookie of the Year award. But when Zion Williamson got injured just a few games into his NBA career, Ja Morant took advantage and cemented himself as the clear front-runner for the award. Ja Morant is averaging 17.6 points per game and 6.9 assists per game, and he has been a key part of the Memphis Grizzlies’ push for a playoff spot. With Zion Williamson out for an extended period of time, Ja Morant looks like a lock to win Rookie of the Year.
RJ Barrett
Rookie RJ Barrett of the New York Knicks is averaging 18.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game through his first 42 games in the NBA. The third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft has shown steady improvement throughout his first season, increasing his scoring average from 16.2 points per game in November to 19.6 points per game in January. Barrett’s strong play has helped the Knicks remain competitive despite a string of injuries to key players, and he looks like a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year honors.
Kendrick Nunn
Kendrick Nunn is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, and was an all-conference player in the Horizon League. After going undrafted in 2018, he joined the Golden State Warriors for Summer League play. He was subsequently waived by the Warriors, and signed a two-way contract with them and their NBA G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. In December 2018, he had his contract converted into a standard NBA contract. After mostly playing with Santa Cruz during his rookie season, he became a regular rotation player for the Miami Heat in 2019–20. In February 2020, he was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
Tyler Herro
There is a strong case to be made for Tyler Herro as the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year. As a shooting guard for the Miami Heat, Herro was drafted 13th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. Heading into his rookie season, Herro was expected to contribute primarily as a shooter off the bench. However, due to injuries to starters Jimmy Butler and Goran Dragic, Herro stepped into a starting role and quickly proved that he belonged in the NBA.
In 52 games (34 starts), Herro averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 37.8% from three-point range. He was especially impressive in the playoffs, where he helped lead the Heat to the NBA Finals while averaging 19 points per game. In the Finals, he battled against some of the best players in the world and held his own, averaging 14 points per game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
What separates Herro from other rookies is his clutch gene; he always seems to make big shots when it matters most. In Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics, with the Heat down 2-0 in the series, Herro hit six threes en route to a 30 point performance that helped spark a comeback win for Miami. That clutch gene will serve him well throughout his career and could be enough to earn him Rookie of the Year honors in 2020.
