Who’s Going to the NFL Playoffs?
Contents
As the NFL regular season comes to a close, we take a look at which teams are most likely to make the playoffs.
The NFL Playoffs
The NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the end of the National Football League (NFL) regular season to determine the NFL champion. The tournament bracket is made up of six teams from each of the league’s two conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).
The NFL Conference Championships
The National Football League (NFL) Conference Championships are the annual playoffs of the National Football League (NFL). The two conference champions will face each other in the Super Bowl.
The AFC Championship Game is the annual American Football Conference (AFC) championship game of the NFL. The AFC champion will face the NFC champion in the Super Bowl.
The NFC Championship Game is the annual National Football Conference (NFC) championship game of the NFL. The NFC champion will face the AFC champion in the Super Bowl.
The NFL Divisional Playoffs
The National Football League (NFL) playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the end of the regular season to determine the NFL champion. From 1933 to 1966, the NFL postseason generally only consisted of the NFL Championship Game, pitting the league’s two division winners (who shall have first-round byes) against each other. The advent of divisional play in 1967 resulted in four teams qualifying for the tournament. When the league merged with the American Football League (AFL) in 1970, the playoffs expanded to eight teams. The number of teams has increased steadily since then; as of 2018, there are 12 teams.
The AFC Playoff Picture
The AFC playoff picture is starting to take shape with just a few weeks left in the NFL regular season. The New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens are currently in the driver’s seat for the top two seeds in the conference. The Patriots have a two-game lead over the Ravens, but Baltimore currently holds the tiebreaker. The Kansas City Chiefs are also in a good position to earn a first-round bye as they hold a one-game lead over the Ravens.
The AFC Wild Card Race
The American Football Conference (AFC) playoff picture looks a lot different than it did just a few weeks ago. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are still the frontrunners for the AFC West title, but the wild card race is wide open. Currently, the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans are in the lead for the two wild card spots, but any of the following teams could make a run for one of those coveted spots:
The Indianapolis Colts are currently in third place in the AFC South with a record of 6-5. They have a tough road ahead, however, with games against division rivals Houston and Tennessee, as well as matchups against Dallas and New York (both of which are currently in playoff contention).
The Denver Broncos are right behind the Colts with a record of 5-6. They have a relatively easy remaining schedule, with games against San Francisco, Cleveland, Oakland, and Arizona. If they can win out, they have a good chance at making the playoffs.
The Miami Dolphins are also 5-6 and are currently in second place in the AFC East. They have an outside shot at winning the division (they trail the New England Patriots by three games), but their more likely path to the playoffs is via one of the wild card spots. They have games remaining against Buffalo, Minnesota, Jacksonville, and Detroit.
Finally, we have the Pittsburgh Steelers at 6-5. They are currently in third place in the AFC North but only trail division-leading Baltimore by one game. Like Indy and Denver, they also have a tough road ahead with games against New England, New Orleans, Los Angeles (Chargers), and Cincinnati remaining on their schedule.
So who’s going to make it to the playoffs? It’s hard to say for sure, but one thing is certain: it’s going to be an exciting end to the season!
The AFC Divisional Playoffs
The AFC Divisional Playoffs will feature the four division winners from the AFC East, AFC North, AFC South, and AFC West playing each other. The top seed in the conference will play the lowest seed remaining while the second and third seeds in the conference will face each other. The games will be played on Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 17.
The NFC Playoff Picture
The race for the NFC playoffs is getting interesting. The Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers are both on the outside looking in, but with a few games left to go in the season, anything could happen. Let’s take a look at the current playoff picture for the NFC.
The NFC Wild Card Race
As the NFL season winds down, the playoff picture is starting to come into focus. In the NFC, the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints have clinched division titles, and the Los Angeles Rams have clinched a playoff berth. That leaves four teams battling for two wild card spots. The Seattle Seahawks currently hold the first wild card spot, with the Minnesota Vikings holding the second spot. The Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles are both still in the hunt, but they will need some help to make it to the postseason.
The Seahawks are in a great position to make it back to the playoffs for the sixth straight season. They have a record of 9-5, and they hold tiebreakers over both the Vikings and the Eagles. They also have a relatively easy remaining schedule, with games against the 49ers, Cardinals, and Cowboys. The Vikings are also in a good position, with a record of 10-4. They hold tiebreakers over both the Panthers and Eagles. Their remaining schedule is not easy, though, with games against the Packers and Bears.
The Panthers are currently on the outside looking in, but they still have a shot at making it to the playoffs. They have a record of 9-5 and hold the tiebreaker over Philadelphia. They will need to win out, though, and they still have tough games remaining against Atlanta and New Orleans. The Eagles are in last place among the four teams fighting for a wild card spot, but they can still make it if they win their final two games and get some help from other teams.
The NFC Divisional Playoffs
The first round of the playoffs is in the books and now we know the four teams that will be representing the NFC in the divisional round. The top-seeded Green Bay Packers will host the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Rams, while the second-seeded New Orleans Saints will host the seventh-seeded Chicago Bears. In the other NFC divisional playoff matchup, the third-seeded Seattle Seahawks will travel to take on the sixth-seeded Minnesota Vikings.
These divisional matchups are set, but there is still one more game to be played in the NFC wild card round. The fifth-seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to take on the fourth-seeded Washington Redskins. The winner of that game will earn a trip to take on either the Packers or Saints in next week’s divisional round.
So who do you think will win each of these NFC divisional playoff games? Who do you think will emerge as victorious in the final NFC matchup and head to Super Bowl LIII?
The Super Bowl
Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest and most important day of the NFL season. The two best teams in the league compete for the Lombardi Trophy in what is always an epic battle. This year, the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots are set to square off in what promises to be a great game.
The Super Bowl LII Matchup
The Super Bowl LII matchup is set, and it’s a rematch of last year’s game! The New England Patriots will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a battle for gridiron supremacy.
The Patriots are looking to repeat as champions, while the Eagles are hoping to go one better than last year’s loss. Who will come out on top? We’ll find out on February 4th!
