Who’s Left in the NFL Playoffs?

With only eight teams remaining in the NFL playoffs, here’s a look at who’s left and their chances of winning the Super Bowl.

AFC

The AFC playoff field is set and we know who’s playing who. In the Wild Card round, the Colts will take on the Texans and the Seahawks will face off against the Cowboys. Who do you think will win?

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFC), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002.

The Patriots have appeared in ten Super Bowls in franchise history, winning seven of them, most recently Super Bowl LIII in February 2019. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys for second most Super Bowl wins behind only the San Francisco 49ers, who have won five.[4][5] The Patriots’ four consecutive Super Bowl wins from 2016 to 2019 is tied with two other teams for second place all-time behind only Pittsburgh’s record six straight wins from 1975 to 1980.[6] From 2001 to 2018, was quarterback Tom Brady along with head coach Bill Belichick has led New England to a winning record in 19 consecutive seasons,[7][8] and they accomplished adding an NFL-record 10th consecutive division title.[9][10]

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC. In contrast with their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were the oldest team never to win a league championship, the Steelers of the post-merger era are one of the most successful NFL franchises.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have been AFC South champions for the past two seasons. Led by a strong defense, they will be looking to quarterback Blake Bortles to take the next step and lead them to a Super Bowl berth.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion. Hunt’s son, Clark, serves as chairman and CEO of the team. While Hunt’s ownership stakes passed collectively to his widow and children after his death in 2006, Clark represents the Chiefs at all ownership meetings.

The head coach is Andy Reid, who led the Eagles to six NFC Championship appearances and one Super Bowl appearance during his fourteen seasons with the Eagles. Since he became head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, Reid has led Kansas City to three AFC West division championships, four AFC Championship appearances, and one Super Bowl appearance.

NFC

The NFC has four teams remaining in the playoffs: the Philadelphia Eagles, the Minnesota Vikings, the New Orleans Saints, and the Los Angeles Rams.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the four teams remaining in the NFL playoffs. The Eagles are the defending champions, having won the Super Bowl last year. They are led by quarterback Carson Wentz, who is a leading contender for MVP this season. The Eagles have a strong defense and are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl again this year.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The Saints were founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The team plays its home games at Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Saints have won 13 division championships (tied for first in NFL history), six conference championships (tied for second in NFL history), and one Super Bowl (XLIV). They are the only NFC team to win a Super Bowl title since the 2006 season, as well as being the only team to win a Super Bowl title that did not come from either the AFC East or NFC West divisions.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis, and were known as the St. Louis Rams from 1995 to 2015. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016, rechristened as the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams play their home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The Rams are currently members of the NFC West division and are led by head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Jared Goff
