Who’s On The NBA All-Star Teams?

The NBA All-Star teams have been announced, and there are some familiar faces among the starters. Who’s on the teams this year?

Eastern Conference All-Star Starters

The Eastern Conference All-Star starters were announced last night, and there were a few surprises. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Carmelo Anthony will start in the frontcourt, while Dwyane Wade and Kyle Lowry round out the backcourt.

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Andrew Irving is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Irving played college basketball for Duke before joining the Cavaliers in 2011.

During his six seasons with Cleveland, Irving became one of the best scorers in the NBA, winning the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Award, and being selected to three All-Star teams and two All-NBA teams. He was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2016 after leading the Cavaliers to their first NBA championship. That same year, he also became a member of USA Basketball’s gold medal-winning team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, his second gold medal with Team USA.

DeMar DeRozan

DeMar Dwayne DeRozan (born August 7, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the USC Trojans and was selected ninth overall in the 2009 NBA draft by the Raptors. He is a four-time NBA All-Star and a two-time All-NBA team member.

DeRozan won an NBA championship with the Raptors in 2019, becoming the first Canadian to ever do so. He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2016 as a member of the United States men’s national basketball team.

LeBron James

LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. As a high school basketball player, he was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball three times. LeBron James played college basketball at the University of Akron before he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003. He played for the Cavaliers from 2003 to 2010 and then for the Miami Heat from 2010 to 2014. In 2014, LeBron James returned to the Cavaliers. He has been selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game twelve times and has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player four times.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has been selected to start in the Eastern Conference backcourt for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday.

It will be the third straight All-Star Game start for Antetokounmpo, who was also voted as a starter for last year’s game in Charlotte. The Greek Freak will become just the fourth player in Bucks history to start three straight All-Star Games, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971-74), Bob Lanier (1976-78) and Sidney Moncrief (1982-84).

Joining Antetokounmpo in the Eastern Conference backcourt will be Kemba Walker of the Boston Celtics. It will be the second straight All-Star Game start for Walker, who was also selected as a starter for last year’s game.

Joel Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been named an NBA All-Star starter for the second consecutive season. The seven-footer from Cameroon averaged 23.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 31 games before the All-Star break, leading the Sixers to the best record in the Eastern Conference at 31-17.

Eastern Conference All-Star Reserves

The Eastern Conference All-Star reserves were announced on Thursday, and the list includes some familiar faces. Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton, Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker, and Indiana Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis were all named to the team. Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam and Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal round out the list of Eastern Conference All-Star reserves.

Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo (born May 4, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Indiana University, where he was named the Sporting News College Player of the Year, and was a consensus second-team All-American as a sophomore. Oladipo was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic.

Kyle Lowry

Kyle Lowry was one of the best players in the NBA last season, and he’s continued that play this season. He’s averaging 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, and he’s been one of the best players on a very good Toronto Raptors team. The Raptors are currently second in the Eastern Conference, and Lowry is a big reason why. He was named an All-Star starter last season, but he was snubbed this season in favor of Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker. However, he was named a reserve on the All-Star team today, and he’ll be headed to Chicago for the All-Star game next month.

Kevin Love

Boston Celtics’ Kemba Walker and Milwaukee Bucks’ Khris Middleton headline the 2020 Eastern Conference All-Star reserves, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Joining Walker and Middleton as Eastern Conference reserves are Kemba’s Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum, Indiana Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis, Miami Heat wing Jimmy Butler and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.

Bradley Beal

Beal was one of the final reserves announced for the All-Star game, but he’s certainly deserving of the spot. The shooting guard is averaging 24.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the Wizards this season.

Western Conference All-Star Starters

The NBA All-Star teams were announced on Thursday night, and there were a few surprises. Anthony Davis was the leading vote-getter in the West, and he’ll be joined in the frontcourt by LeBron James and Kevin Durant. In the backcourt, Stephen Curry and James Harden were the starters.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is one of the starters for the Western Conference All-Star team. Curry is having another great season, averaging 23.5 points, 7.9 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game. He is one of the best shooters in the NBA, and is a big reason why the Warriors are once again one of the best teams in the league.

James Harden

The eight starters for the 67th NBA All-Star Game were announced Thursday, with Houston Rockets guard James Harden leading the way in fan voting.

Harden, who will be making his seventh All-Star appearance, was the top vote-getter in the Western Conference with 4,340,911 votes. He is joined in the backcourt by his Rockets teammate Russell Westbrook (3,162,835), who earned his 10th career All-Star nod.

In the frontcourt, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (4,099,554) and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (4,081,351) round out the starters. It marks James’ 16th consecutive All-Star selection and Antetokounmpo’s fourth in a row.

Rounding out the starting lineup for the Western Conference are two first-time All-Stars: Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Dončić (3,869,458) and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard (3,544,132).

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant is a forward for the Golden State Warriors and has been selected as a starter for the 2019 Western Conference All-Star team. Durant is a nine-time All-Star and was the MVP of the game in 2014 and 2018.

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a six-time NBA All-Star and has been named to five All-NBA First Teams and three All-Defensive Teams. Davis was the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the New Orleans Pelicans, and is considered one of the best power forwards in the NBA.

DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Amir Cousins (born August 13, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, where he was an All-American in 2010. He was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. He is a two-time NBA All-Star and a four-time All-NBA selection.

In 2017, after six seasons with the Kings, Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. A torn left Achilles tendon suffered in January 2019 caused him to miss much of that season, and as a result, he signed with the Golden State Warriors in July 2019. In his first season with the Warriors, he won an NBA championship.

Western Conference All-Star Reserves

The NBA All-Star teams were announced on Thursday evening, with a few surprises in store. Anthony Davis was the only player to receive a unanimous vote, and he’ll be joined in the starting lineup by Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and James Harden.

Russell Westbrook

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was named a Western Conference All-Star reserve on Thursday, as voted on by the conference’s coaches.

Westbrook is averaging 21.4 points, 8.1 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game this season, his ninth in the NBA. He’s helped the Thunder to a 30-17 record, good for sixth in the West.

This is the fifth time Westbrook has been named an All-Star. He was previously selected as a starter in 2015 and 2016 and as a reserve in 2011 and 2013.

LaMarcus Aldridge

For the fourth time in his career, LaMarcus Aldridge has been named an NBA All-Star. The Portland Trail Blazers power forward will be a reserve on the Western Conference team for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, it was announced Thursday night.

Aldridge, who will turn 33 on July 19, is averaging 23.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 80.8 percent from the free throw line this season. He is one of only two players (LeBron James is the other) averaging at least 23 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 50 percent or better from the field and 80 percent or better from the free throw line this season.

The 6-11 Aldridge has averaged 20.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line in 34 games (all starts) for the Blazers this season. He ranks sixth in the NBA in scoring average, 21st in rebounding average and 64th in assists per game among players who have played in at least 30 games this season.

Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was named a Western Conference All-Star reserve, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Towns, 23, was one of seven players selected by coaches to round out the West roster. He joins Warriors forward Kevin Durant, Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Thunder guard Russell Westbrook as first-time All-Stars from the West.

Towns is averaging 21.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season for the Timberwolves, who are currently third in the Western Conference with a 29-16 record.

Damian Lillard

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard was announced as an All-Star starter for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game on Thursday. He is the first Trail Blazers player to be named an All-Star starter since Clyde Drexler in 1992.

Lillard, who is averaging 28.9 points and 7.8 assists per game, will start alongside LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis and James Harden in the Western Conference.

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson, Splash Brother and shooting guard for the Warriors, has been named a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star team. This is his fifth time being named an All-Star, but first time as a starter. As a key player on one of the best teams in the NBA, Thompson is averaging 21.5 points per game and is shooting a career-high 48.8% from three-point range.
