The Wilkes Baseball Schedule Breaking it Down

The Wilkes Colonels are set to take on a strong slate of opponents this season as they look to improve upon their 18-22 record from a year ago. Here is a breakdown of their 2019 schedule.

The Wilkes Colonels will open up their 2019 campaign at home on February 22nd against crosstown rival King’s College. They will then hit the road for three games, taking on Lebanon Valley, Alvernia, and Moravian. After a six-game homestand that features three games against conference foes Susquehanna and Catholic, as well as a non-conference tilt with Immaculata, Wilkes will travel to Scranton for a rematch with the Royals. The team’s first road trip of the conference season will be a short one, as they will head to Washington, D.C. to take on Goucher before returning home to host Juniata.

The Colonels will then embark on their longest road trip of the year, spending two weeks out west as they take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne, Chapman, and Occidental. They’ll return home for another six-game homestand that includes battles with Gettysburg, Dickinson, Muhlenberg, and Ursinus before closing out the regular season with back-to-back road games at McDaniel and Franklin & Marshall.

Looking at the schedule, there are some key stretches that will be critical for the Colonels if they want to make a push for the playoffs. Their opening homestand against King’s and three conference foes is important early on in terms of setting the tone for the rest of the season. The lengthy West Coast trip in April will also be telling; if Wilkes can come away with a winning record on that trip it would put them in good position heading into the final month of play.
