The Yawkey Baseball League was founded in 1946 by Tom Yawkey, owner of the Boston Red Sox The league was created to provide competitive baseball for young men between the ages of 18 and 21 who were not yet eligible for Major League Baseball
The league began with four teams: the Boston Braves, the Boston Red Sox the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees The league quickly became popular, drawing large crowds to Fenway Park and other ballparks around Boston.
