The Championships

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from Ac Flora High School in Columbia, South Carolina are state champions! The girls beat Dorman 54-52 in the Class 5A Championship game and the boys defeated Westside 63-62 in the Class 4A title game. These are the first State Championships for Ac Flora high school in any sport.

The Coaches

Ac Flora High School has a long tradition of success in basketball. The coaches have a lot to do with that success. They are some of the most experienced and successful coaches in the state.

The Head Coach is Bobcat Ryan. He has been coaching at Ac Flora for 20 years. His teams have won four State Championships and six conference championships He has been named Coach of the Year three times by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Assistant coach Darrell Hutchinson has been with the team for nine years. He is a former player and captain of the Ac Flora team. Coach Hutchinson is responsible for scouting opponents and developing game plans.

The third member of the Coaching Staff is Katie Keller. She is in her first year as an Assistant Coach at Ac Flora. Coach Keller played point guard for the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team from 2008 to 2012. She helps with player development and works with the team on their offensive gameplan.

The Alumni

Ac Flora High School’s Basketball team is full of alumni who have gone on to play at the collegiate level and beyond. Here are some of the most notable alumni:

--Kwame Brown Brown was the first overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft and he went on to play for the Washington Wizards Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Bobcats Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors

-Nazr Mohammed: Mohammed was a member of the Ac Flora team that won the state championship in 1996, and he went on to play for the New York Knicks San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Bobcats, Chicago Bulls Thunder Oklahoma City and Atlanta Hawks

-Donte’ Greene: Greene played for Syracuse University before being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008. He also played for the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets
