Pippen’s Early Life and Career

Scottie Pippen was born on September 25, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas. As a young child, he faced many challenges, including poverty and racism. Pippen’s father died when he was just an infant, and his mother was left to raise eight children on her own. Despite the difficulties he faced, Pippen excelled in school and basketball. In High School he was named All-State and led his team to the state championship game.

Pippen continued his basketball career at the University of Central Arkansas He had a successful college career, averaging 16 points per game and earning All-American honors. After three years at Central Arkansas Pippen decided to enter the NBA draft He was drafted fifth overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1987.

Pippen’s Time with the Bulls

Pippen began his professional career with the Chicago Bulls after being selected fifth overall in the 1987 NBA Draft He quickly became a starter and played an important role in helping the Bulls win six NBA Championships winning the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in 1993. Pippen is one of only two players to have won an NBA Championship and Olympic gold medal in the same year (1992).

Pippen continued to play a leading role on the Bulls team that won a fourth consecutive NBA Championship in 1996, as he was voted one of the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team for a record-tying fifth consecutive season and was also selected for the All-NBA First Team He also helped Chicago win a sixth NBA Championship in 1998. Pippen was traded to the Houston Rockets in 1998, but rejoined the Bulls in 2003, playing one final season with Michael Jordan before retiring as a player in 2004.

Pippen’s number 33 was retired by the Chicago Bulls on December 9, 2005. Pippen was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on August 13, 2010.
