The 2022 AHSA A Baseball Playoffs will take place from May 18-20 at Paterson Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The playoffs will feature the top four teams from the regular season with the top seed getting a bye to the semifinals. The other three teams will play in a single-elimination tournament, with the winner advancing to play the top seed in the semifinals. The semifinals and finals will be best-of-three series.

What the seeding means for each team

The road to the state championship

In 2022, the journey to a state championship in Alabama high school baseball will begin with playoffs at the regional level. From there, teams will advance to one of eight sectional playoffs. Sleepers that could make a run

The Alabama high school Athletic Association playoff brackets are set for the 2022 season. In Class 7A, two-time defending state champion Vestavia Hills will be the top seed. The Rebels (24-4) will host crosstown rival Spain Park (11-17) in the first round. Hoover (18-10), which Vestavia Hills defeated in the state semifinals last year, will be the four seed and will travel to take on Auburn (21-7) in the first round.

In Class 6A, Oxford (22-8) is the two seed and will host Muscle Shoals (10-20) in the first round. Pell City (16-13) is the three seed and will host Fairhope (15-14).

In Class 5A, Ramsay (23-6) is the top seed and will host Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (19-10) in the first round. Walker (25-5) is the two seed and will host Bradley Central (12-18).

In Class 4A, Pisgah (26-4) is the top seed and will host Jasper (13-17) in the first round. North Jackson (24-6) is the two seed and will host Alexandria (15-15).

-Jake Nightingale, pitcher, Vestavia Hills high school Nightingale is one of the top pitchers in the state of Alabama. He has a fastball that tops out at 96 MPH, and he also has a lethal curveball. Nightingale has already committed to pitch for Auburn University

-Will Matthews, pitcher, Hoover High School Matthews is another top pitcher in the state of Alabama. He has a fastball that reaches 98 MPH, and he also has a plus changeup. Matthews has committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University
