The team got its start in the local sandlots, but quickly rose to prominence in the early years of professional baseball The McKinney Nine, as they were known back then, were one of the best teams in the country. They won the first ever professional Baseball Championship in 1887, and followed that up with another title in 1888.

The team continued to be successful into the 1890s, winning another championship in 1890. But after that, the team began to struggle. They failed to make the playoffs in 1891 and 1892, and then-owner John Ritter sold the team in 1893. The new owner, George Tebeau, moved the team to Kansas City in an effort to save money

The team played well in Kansas City but Tebeau’s cost-cutting measures resulted in poor attendance and mounting debts. After just two seasons, Tebeau was forced to sell the team again. This time, they were bought by a group of local businessmen who returned the team to McKinney.

The Team’s First Season

In McKinney, Texas, a small group of businessmen led by Don Moxley and email pioneer Jake Jaeb decided to bring Professional Baseball to the city. They were inspired by the newly created independent Continental baseball league which was set to begin play in 2010 with six teams. The group paid a $50,000 franchise fee and started recruiting players.

The league held a Dispersal Draft of unprotected players in order to stock the new teams. The McKinney franchise drafted pitcher Brandon Hynick as their first ever player. Hynick had previously played in the Major Leagues for the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians The team then drafted nine more players in the following rounds.

Shortly after the draft concluded, the CBL announced that it was suspending operations due to financial problems. Undeterred, Moxley and Jaeb decided to move forward with their plans and formed the independent North American League The NAL had originally planned to begin play in 2011, but pushed its start date back to 2012 due to the CBL’s collapse.

The team held tryouts in January 2012 and signed 25 players, including Hynick who decided to stay with the team despite the league change. The team also hired former Major League catcher Drew Butera as their manager.

On May 11, 2012, the McKinney Professional baseball club played their first ever game against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Roadrunner Stadium. Hynick started on the mound for McKinney and pitched seven innings of shutout baseball as McKinney won 2-0.

The team’s second playoff game was another home game, this time against the Frisco RoughRiders. The RoughRiders were a tough team, but McKinney was able to pull out a victory and advance to the next round of the playoffs.

The team’s third playoff game was against the Corpus Christi Hooks This was a very important game, as the winner would advance to the Championship Series Unfortunately, Corpus Christi was too much for McKinney and they lost the game 9-1.

Despite their early exit from the playoffs, it was still a successful season for McKinney Baseball. The team made its first playoff appearance in ten years and they proved that they could compete with some of the best teams in Texas.

The Team’s First Championship

In 2014, the McKinney Baseball team won their first championship in team history. It was a momentous occasion for the players, the Coaching Staff and the fans. The team had come close to winning a title before, but always fell just short. This time, they were able to put it all together and come out on top.

After a successful first season, the team’s second season began with high hopes. Unfortunately, the season was cut short due to a players’ strike. Despite this, the team still managed to make it to the playoffs.

McKinney Baseball made their second playoff appearance in team history in 2014. They had a strong season and finished with a record of 21-11. They were eventually eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.
