The team continued to play until 1930 when they finally disbanded for good. However, baseball continued to be played in Palmyra thanks to the efforts of local youth groups who kept the game alive until it finally made its way back to the town’s adult population in recent years

During this time, some of the greatest players in Palmyra history wore the uniform: Al Bressler, Dick Funk, Gus Knauss, Carl Liebel, Harry Lugar Jr., Del Palmer, Otis Todd, Frank Vesiak Sr., and many others. In 1954, Bressler set a league record for home runs in a season with 19.

In 1959, things began to change again. The Palmyra team joined a new league, the Susquehanna League, which was made up of teams from central Pennsylvania. This meant that they would no longer be playing against local teams like Harrisburg or Lebanon. The new league was much more competitive than the old one; however, the Palmyra team was up to the challenge and won the league championship in their first year.

The Modern Era

Since 1950, the Palmyra baseball league has been providing quality baseball entertainment to the people of Palmyra and the surrounding area. The league is made up of six teams, each representing a different town or city in the area. The teams are the Palmyra A’s, Palmyra B’s, Cinnaminson Reds, Delanco White Sox Florence Braves, and Mount Holly Cardinals.

The league operates on a similar schedule to Major League Baseball with games being played from April through September. The league championship is determined by a playoff system with the top two teams in the regular season standings facing off in a best-of-five series.

The league has produced many Great players over the years, including several who have gone on to play in the Major Leagues Some of the more recent stars include Mike Piazza (Palmyra A’s), who was inducted into the national baseball Hall of Fame in 2016; Todd Frazier (Cinnaminson Reds), who won the home run Derby at the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star game and Anthony Rizzo (Florence Braves), who is currently one of the Top Players in Major League Baseball

And in 1947, Jackie Robinson made his professional debut with the Montreal Royals at Fenway Park in Palmyra against the Brooklyn Dodgers
