SXU has a long tradition of success in baseball, dating back to the days when the school was known as Saint Xavier Academy. The Cougars have won numerous conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA Division II tournament. under Head Coach Mike Dooley, who took over the program in 2016, SXU has compiled a record of 131-52 (.716), won two conference titles and made two appearances in the NCAA tournament
This year’s team is led by senior shortstop Connor Owens (.358 batting average 19 stolen bases) and junior pitcher Jack Alvino (9-2, 2.70 ERA), who were both All-Conference selections last season. Other Key Players include senior second baseman Joe Capolupo (.340 batting average), junior third baseman Jordan Bischel (.325 batting average 31 RBI) and senior catcher Alec Oppici (.271 batting average).
The Cougars will open their season on February 8th with a three-game series against Madonna University at home. Be sure to catch them in action this year – they’re sure to be one of the top teams in the conference once again!
