Baylor University Head baseball coach Steve Rodriguez has resigned after an internal investigation found that he violated multiple university policies, the school announced Friday.
The investigation, conducted by an outside law firm hired by the university, found that Rodriguez violated Baylor’s sexual misconduct policy, discrimination and harassment policy and ethical conduct policy.
“Coach Rodriguez’s resignation is in the best interest of Baylor University and our student-athletes,” Baylor Vice President and Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said in a statement. “We will not tolerate violations of our policies.”

Coach Resigns After Investigation Finds “Serious Violations”
Baylor University’s head Baseball Coach Steve Rodriguez resigned Thursday, hours after an investigation found “serious violations” of NCAA rules.
The resignation comes after an external review by the law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. found that Rodriguez and his staff violated multiple NCAA rules, including impermissible recruiting contacts and failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance.
“We take these findings very seriously and are committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure that our athletics program upholds the highest standards of integrity and compliance,” Baylor president Linda A. Livingstone said in a statement.

Baylor Releases Findings of Investigation to the Public
Baylor University President Ken Starr released the findings of an investigation into the school’s baseball program on Wednesday night, which led to the resignation of Head coach Steve Smith
The investigation was launched after former pitching coach Tyler Frazier was arrested on charges of sexual assault of a child in May. Frazier was immediately fired and Smith took over as head coach on an interim basis.
According to the findings of the investigation, Smith failed to properly report Frazier’s arrest to Baylor’s compliance office, as required by university policy. Additionally, investigators found that Smith had made “inappropriate comments” to female athletes on the team.
As a result of the findings, Starr said that Smith had tendered his resignation, effective immediately. Baylor will begin a search for a new head baseball coach immediately.
NCAA Opens Investigation Into Baylor baseball Program
On Tuesday, Baylor University’s head baseball coach Steve Smith, resigned from his position after an NCAA investigation was opened into the program. This is the latest development in a string of controversies that have plagued the university in recent years
Baylor has been under scrutiny since 2016, when it was revealed that the school had failed to adequately respond to reports of sexual assault on campus. The baseball team has also been embroiled in controversy, with several players being accused of misconduct in recent years
The NCAA investigation is still in its early stages, and it is not yet clear what specific allegations Smith is being investigated for. However, the fact that he has resigned suggests that there may be some merit to the NCAA’s inquiry.
This is a developing story, and we will provide more updates as they become available.
