Chittenango Baseball: A Brief History

Chittenango baseball has a long and storied history. The team was founded in 1869, making it one of the oldest baseball teams in the United States The team has had its ups and downs over the years, but it is currently enjoying a resurgence.

The team was a founding member of the New York State League, which was formed in 1885. The league was short-lived, however, and Chittenango joined the Central New York League in 1886. This league also only lasted for a few years.

In 1891, Chittenango joined the Onondaga County League, where they enjoyed great success. The team won the League Championship three times in four years. They also won a number of exhibition games against Major League teams.

Unfortunately, the team ran into financial difficulties in the early 1900s and ceased operations. Baseball would not return to Chittenango until 1923, when a new team called the Chittenango Indians was formed.

The Indians were very successful, winning their League Championship in their first season. They would go on to win several more championships over the next few years.

The team folded once again in 1933, but was revived in 1936 as the Chittenango Bears. The Bears enjoyed moderate success before folding for good in 1941.

The Chittenango baseball team is a community varsity baseball team representing Chittenango high school in Chittenango, New York. The team competes in Section III of the New York State Public high school Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). They are currently coached by Frank Brown.
