New Paltz baseball Season Update
It’s been an eventful few weeks for New Paltz baseball, as the team looks to solidify their position in the standings.
After a strong start to the season, the team has hit a bit of a rough patch, losing four out of their last five games. However, they still remain in contention for a playoff spot, and will look to turn things around in the second half of the season.
Offensively, the team has been led by senior first baseman Matt Haddad, who is hitting .338 with four home runs and 19 RBI. In the pitching rotation, senior right-hander Mike McMahon has been the most consistent performer, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.86 ERA.
The team will look to get back on track this week with a three-game series against conference rival SUNY Cortland.

What the Team Needs to Do to Improve
Baseball is back and the New Paltz Hawks are off to a solid start. The team is currently 4-2 and in second place in the conference. There are areas of improvement, however, if the team wants to continue their winning ways.
One area that needs improvement is hitting with runners in scoring position. The team is batting just .233 (10-for-43) with runners in scoring position. This needs to improve if the team wants to win more games.
Another area of improvement is pitching with runners on base. The team’s pitchers have allowed opponents to score 43 runs (40 earned) in just 46 innings pitched. This works out to an ERA of 8.11. This needs to be improved if the team wants to win more games.
The final area of improvement is defense. The team has committed 12 errors in just 6 games. This needs to be improved if the team wants to win more games.

New Paltz Baseball: Season Update (Conclusion)
The New Paltz baseball team finished their season with an overall record of 10-4, a significant improvement from last year’s 3-11 record. The team saw strong performances from a Number of players including senior captain Matt DeVincenzo, who led the team in batting average (.500), home runs (3), and RBIs (17). Other top performers included junior Timmy Gardener (.471 avg, 1 HR, 12 RBIs) and sophomore Luke Jones (.440 avg, 2 HRs, 11 RBIs).
The team got off to a hot start, winning their first seven games. They then hit a rough patch, losing four out of five games. However, they bounced back and won their final three games to finish the season on a high note.
