The 2019 Virginia Tech baseball team will look to build on a solid 2018 campaign in which the team went 31-25 and made it to the NCAA tournament Head Coach John Szefc returns for his third season at the helm, and he will have a talented roster at his disposal. Here is a look at the Va Tech baseball team for the upcoming season
A look at the 2019 schedule
The 2019 Virginia Tech baseball pitching staff will feature a healthy mix of young and old, with plenty of arms that can get the job done on any given day. The staff is led by junior right-hander Ian Seymour, who was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year last season after posting a 10-2 record with a 2.68 ERA. Seymour will be joined in the rotation by sophomore left-hander Ryan Abbott and junior right-hander Danny Garcia. The bullpen will be anchored by senior right-hander Joe Crumling, who saved seven games last season.
Other key pitchers include junior right-handers Kyle Wright (5-1, 2.67 ERA in 2018) and Josh Reavis (3-0, 1.98 ERA in 2018), along with senior left-hander Doug Bedingfield (1-0, 2.70 ERA in 2018).
The Hokies will have to replace two of their top hitters from last season in outfielder Connor Coward and second baseman Sam Fragale, but they return plenty of firepower in the middle of the lineup with first baseman Nate Eikhoff, third baseman Nick Menken and designated hitter Andrew Mogg. The Hokies also bring back one of the Top Defensive infields in the country with shortstop Cole McNamee and second baseman Tommy Edwards teaming up again up the middle.

Key returners for the 2019 season
The Virginia Tech baseball team is set to have a great 2019 season. The Hokies are returning many Key Players from their 2018 squad that made it to the NCAA Tournament Here are some of the key returners for the 2019 season:
Outfielder Nick Biddison is back for his senior season. Biddison was a first team All-ACC selection in 2018 and led the team in batting average (.343), hits (93), and stolen bases (17). He will be a key player in the Hokies’ outfield this season.
Infielder Sam Travis is also back for his senior season. Travis was second on the team in batting average last season (.327) and led the team in home runs (9) and RBIs (52). He will be a key player in the middle of the Hokies’ lineup this season.
Pitcher Dalton Dennis returns for his junior season after being named a third team All-American by perfect game last season. Dennis compiled a 6-1 record with a 2.29 ERA in 14 starts last season. He will be one of the Hokies’ top starters this season.
Newcomers to watch for 2019
The Virginia Tech baseball team is gearing up for another exciting season and there are a few new players to keep an eye on.
One newcomer is freshman outfielder Reece Sherrill. Sherrill was a Standout Player in High School and is expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
Another player to watch is junior transfer pitcher Matt DiLeo. DiLeo comes to Virginia Tech from Division II Franklin Pierce University, where he was named Conference Pitcher of the Year. He will be a key member of the pitching staff this season.
Finally, keep an eye on freshman catcher Drew Coker. Coker was a highly touted recruit and has the potential to be a starter this season.

Position battles to watch during spring training
While many of the everyday lineup spots seem to be set, there are a few key position battles that will be waged during spring training Here are three to keep an eye on.
The pitching staff for 2019
The 2019 Virginia Tech Baseball Team will have a pitching staff with a lot of experience. redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Chrisoyer appliance he’ll be the Opening Day starter, and he is one of five pitchers on the roster who have at least 10 starts under their belt.

The defense for 2019
The Virginia Tech Hokies will be looking to make some noise in the 2019 college baseball season, and their roster is loaded with talent. Let’s take a closer look at the defensive side of the ball for this year’s team.
In the infield, the Hokies have a trio of seniors who have been key contributors over the past few seasons. First baseman Tom Jenkins is a two-time All-ACC selection and has hit 20+ home runs in each of the past two seasons. Second baseman Dalton Brown is a three-year starter who has terrific range and a strong arm. And shortstop Timmy Luster is a talented defender with a good bat who will be leading the way for this year’s team.
