RMU Hockey: A Force to Be Reckoned With
RMU Hockey is a NCAA Division 1 Hockey Team that competes in the Atlantic Hockey Conference. The team is based out of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, and they play their home games at the 84 Lumber Arena. The team is coached by Derek Schooley, who has been with the team since 2006.
The RMU Hockey team has been a force to be reckoned with ever since they joined the Atlantic Hockey Conference in 2006. In their first season, they won the regular season conference title and made it to the NCAA tournament They have won the conference tournament title three times (2011, 2012, 2015) and have made it to the NCAA Tournament six times (2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).
The 2015-2016 season was a particularly successful one for RMU Hockey. They won the regular season conference title for the second time in team history and made it all the way to the Frozen Four (the semifinal round of the NCAA tournament). They ultimately lost to eventual National Champion North Dakota in double overtime, but it was still an incredibly successful season for RMU Hockey.

The History of RMU Hockey
Ice hockey has been a part of Robert Morris University since the school’s founding in 1921. The RMU Colonials are a Division I team that competes in Atlantic Hockey In their almost 100-year history, the Colonials have made several trips to the NCAA tournament and have produced many professional players.
The Colonials began play in the 1922-23 season and were initially a part of the Western Pennsylvania Hockey League In 1929, they joined the Eastern Amateur Hockey League where they played for almost 20 years. In 1948, RMU left the EAHL to become an independent team.
The Colonials joined Atlantic Hockey in 2010 and have been one of the most successful teams in the conference since then. They have won five Regular Season titles and three conference tournament championships. RMU has also made three trips to the NCAA tournament most recently in 2019.
RMU has produced many NHL players including current stars like Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry. Other notable alumni include former NHL All-Stars Bob Errey and Craig Simpson.
