Jason V iterbo is a native of Los Angeles CA and comes to ACU after serving as an Assistant Coach at UC Riverside. Prior to that, he was Head Coach at Cal Poly Pomona for four seasons.

Coach Viterbo is bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program, and we’re very excited to have him on board. He’s a great addition to our Coaching Staff and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do with our team.

“We want to create a culture of excellence, hard work and dedication,” he said. “We want our players to be accountable and to have high standards for themselves.”

Wallen said that he plans to instill a “mental toughness” in his players, and that he wants them to be focused on the task at hand.

“I want our guys to be able to handle adversity,” he said. “I want them to be able to handle success.”

Golding and his staff have put together a talented group of recruits that includes four-star point guard Mateo Dessert, three-star shooting guard David Harris, and two-star Power Forward Luke Cooper.

The recruiting class is ranked 28th in the nation by 247Sports and includes six players who are ranked in the top 100 at their respective positions.

This is a big change for a program that has only had one player ranked in the top 100 in the past decade.

Golding’s recruiting strategy has been to target high-upside prospects that have been overlooked by bigger schools.

“We want guys that have a chip on their shoulder, that feel like they have something to prove,” Golding said in an interview with ACU Sports.

“We’re not going to get every single guy we go after, but we’re going to get guys that fit what we’re looking for.”

With Golding at the helm, Abilene Christian is poised to make noise in the NCAA tournament for years to come.

When Abilene Christian University hired Grant McCasland as its new head basketball coach in 2015, the school knew it was getting a rising star in the coaching world. McCasland had just led Arkansas Little Rock to a surprising upset of then-No. 5 Purdue in the NCAA Tournament and he seemed to have all the tools to build a successful program at ACU.

In his first two seasons, McCasland has led the Wildcats to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA tournament including a win over Texas Tech in 2019. He’s also helped ACU to its first conference championship in nearly 30 years.

Now, with his team poised for another deep run in the 2020 NCAA tournament McCasland is focused on taking the program even further. In an interview with ESPN, he outlined his vision for the future of ACU basketball.

“My goal is to make Abilene Christian one of the premier mid-major programs in the country,” McCasland said. “We want to be known as a program that can consistently compete for conference championships and make deep runs in the NCAA tournament ”

To achieve this goal, McCasland said he wants to continue to build a strong foundation within the ACU Basketball Program That means recruiting high-character student-athletes who are committed to being successful on and off the court.

“We want guys who are going to buy into our system and our culture and who are going to be great representatives of our university,” McCasland said. “With that foundation in place, I think we can do some special things here at Abilene Christian.”

McCasland also said he wants to continue to upgrade the facilities and resources available to his players and staff. That includes plans for a new practice facility and upgrades to Wildcat Stadium, where ACU plays its home games

“We want our players and coaches to have everything they need to be successful,” McCasland said. “It’s important that we provide them with first-class facilities so they can train at an elite level.”

With his vision for the future of ACU basketball in place, McCasland said he’s excited about what his team can accomplish in the years ahead.

“This is a special place with special people, and I’m blessed to be here,” McCasland said. “Our goal is still unchanged: we want to be one of the best mid-major programs in the country.”
