The Greenjackets were founded in 1988 as the Savannah Cardinals, and they played their home games at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Georgia. In 1995, the team moved to Augusta and became the Augusta Blues. The team was renamed the Augusta Greenjackets in 2001.

Since moving to Augusta, the Greenjackets have been one of the most successful teams in Minor League Baseball The team has won six South Atlantic League championships, more than any other team in the league. In 2005, the Greenjackets were named minor league team of the Year by Baseball America

The Augusta Greenjackets are a minor league baseball team that has been a part of the South Atlantic League since 1988. The team is based in Augusta, Georgia, and is currently a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants The Greenjackets play their home games at SRP Park, which opened in 2018.

The team got its start in 1976 as the Knoxville Sox, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox After two years in Knoxville, the team moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, and became the Wausau Mets. In 1982, the team moved again, this time to Savannah, Georgia, and became the Savannah Mets. The team was then purchased by San Francisco Giants owner Bob Lurie in 1987 and moved to Augusta, where they have been ever since.

Over the course of their history, the Augusta Greenjackets have won five league championships (1988, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2000) and have had nineteen players who went on to play Major League Baseball Some of the more notable alumni include Matt Williams Jason Schmidt, Tim Lincecum Madison Bumgarner Buster Posey Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik.
