Baseball
Although baseball is known as America’s pastime, its popularity is worldwide. Baseball Schedule can be confusing to fans because of the number of games played and the length of the season.
The regular season of Major League Baseball (MLB) consists of 162 games, which are played over a span of approximately six months from late March or early April to late September or early October. Each team plays a total of 81 games: 41 at home and 40 away.
During the regular season teams play within their own divisions and also play inter-league games. In MLB, there are two leagues—the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). Each league is further divided into three divisions: East, West, and Central.
The layout of the baseball schedule is designed so that every team plays every other team in its own league a certain number of times. For example, each team in the AL East Division plays every other team in that division 19 times during the Regular Season (19×4=76). Similarly, each team in the AL West Division plays every other team in that division 19 times as well (19×4=76). The remaining 10 games on each team’s schedule come from playing teams in the other league—6 games against a rival division and 4 games (2 home, 2 away) against teams from the opposite league but from within its own division. This ensures that all 30 teams play each other an equal number of times during the course of a season.
The Baseball Schedule is designed so that each team has one day off per week, although sometimes there are doubleheaders scheduled on days when teams are otherwise off.
