The Big South Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA’s Division I. Originally a non-football conference, the Big South began sponsoring a football conference in 2002. Its ten members are located in the southeastern United States The conference headquarters is located in Charlotte, North Carolina
The Big South Conference sponsors championships in eight men’s and nine women’s NCAA sanctioned sports. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football (since 2002), golf, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field and wrestling; while women’s sports include basketball, cross country, golf, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, soccer (since 2016), softball (since 2016), tennis and volleyball.

The Big South Conference is made up of 10 teams: Campbell Fighting Camels Gardner-Webb Bulldogs Hampton Pirates High Point Panthers, Longwood Lancers Presbyterian Blue Hose Radford Highlanders, UNC-Asheville Bulldogs, USC Upstate Spartans and Winthrop Eagles.
The conference season is just over halfway complete and the Campbell Fighting Camels currently sit atop the standings with a 9-3 record in conference play The UNC-Asheville Bulldogs are just a half game back at 8-3, while the Radford Highlanders are third with a 7-4 mark.
The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs and High Point Panthers round out the top five with records of 7-5 and 6-5 respectively. The remaining four teams in the conference are all within two games of each other and will be fighting for positioning down the stretch.

The Big South Conference is a college Athletic Conference affiliated with the NCAA’s Division I. The Big South began athletic competition in the 1978–79 season. The conference’s membership changed greatly over its first decade, with only three of its founding members remaining by 1986.
In 1992, the conference gained an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament which it has held every year since. In 2002, elevated to multi-sport conference status, the Big South began sponsoring football.
The Big South is particularly known for men’s basketball. UNC Asheville and Radford University have both appeared in the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship tournament as of 2016. Additionally, four Big South members have appeared in the National Invitation Tournament Coastal Carolina High Point University Liberty University and Winthrop University.
