Big Ten Standings for Hockey: what each team needs to do to make the playoffs
The Big Ten Tournament will be held March 18-21 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, with the top four seeds receiving first-round byes. The conference championship game will be played Sunday, March 22 (time and TV to be determined). Here’s a look at the standings and what each team needs to do to secure a top-four seed and earn a bye into the quarterfinals.
1. Minnesota (22-5-2, 15-3-2 Big Ten) – Clinched No. 1 seed and first-round bye
2. Wisconsin (19-8-3, 12-6-3 Big Ten) – Clinched No. 2 seed and first-round bye
3. Michigan State (18-9-4, 11-7-4 Big Ten) – Clinched No. 3 seed and first-round bye
4. Ohio State (16-10-5, 10-8–4 Big Ten) – Clinched No. 4 seed and first round bye
5. Penn State (15–11–4, 9–9–4 Big Ten)
– Needs one point vs. Michigan on Friday or Saturday to clinch fifth seed and home ice in the first round of the conference tournament would need help to move up to fourth

With only a few weeks of conference play remaining, the Big Ten Standings for Hockey are starting to take shape. As it stands, eight teams have been mathematically eliminated from contention for the Big Ten Championship, leaving just four teams vying for the top spot.
Here’s a look at what each team’s remaining schedule looks like:
-Michigan: The Wolverines have clinched the Big Ten Championship and the #1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament They will finish out their regular season schedule with games against Penn State and Ohio State
-Minnesota: The Gophers are currently in second place in the Big Ten Standings, but they have a tough road ahead with games against first place Michigan and third place Wisconsin. They will need to win both of those games to have a chance at winning the conference title
-Wisconsin: The Badgers are sitting in third place in the standings, but they control their own destiny. If they can win their remaining games against Minnesota and Penn State they will claim the #2 seed in the conference tournament
--Penn State The Nittany Lions are currently in fourth place, but they could still move up to third if they can win their final two games and Wisconsin loses one of its last two games.
