He spent one season playing for an independent team in Texas before finally getting his big break: an invitation to spring training with the San Francisco Giants Brandon made the most of his opportunity and impressed the Giants’ Coaching Staff enough to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster.

And so far this season, Brandon has been everything that the Giants could have hoped for and more. He’s batting .293 with six home runs and 34 RBIs, and he’s been rock-solid defensively in left field Thanks to his hard work and dedication, Brandon Hughes has gone from small-town Oklahoma kid to big-league ballplayer.

Brandon Hughes was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB Draft He made his professional debut that season with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. In 2010, he played for the Fort Wayne TinCaps of the Midwest League and the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. He spent 2011 with Lake Elsinore and 2012 with the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League.

The Padres added Hughes to their 40-man roster after the 2012 season, and he made his Major League debut on September 2, 2013. He played in four games for the Padres that September, batting .250 (3-for-12) with one RBI.
