Brian Flynn was drafted by the New York Islanders in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft He played four seasons of college hockey at the University of Maine before signing a professional contract with the Buffalo Sabres in 2012.

The FAA was contacted in order to have Brian Flynn designated as a “hockey export”. This would allow him to play major Junior hockey in Canada while still being able to keep his NCAA eligibility.

After being cleared by the FAA, Flynn began his career with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. He excelled with the Stars, scoring 25 goals and 61 points in just 54 games. This production earned him a spot on Team USA’s Under-18 World Junior Championship squad. After a strong showing at the WJC’s, Flynn received interest from several NCAA schools. He eventually committed to the University of Maine where he would spend the next four years of his career.

Flynn played well during his time at Maine, but it wasn’t until his senior year that he truly broke out. During the 2011-2012 season, Flynn scored 24 goals and 48 points in just 39 games. This production led to him being named an Alternate Captain for Team USA at the 2012 World Championships After impressing at the Worlds, Flynn was signed by the Buffalo Sabres as an undrafted Free Agent

Flynn worked his way up through Buffalo’s system, spending time with both their AHL and ECHL affiliates before finally making his NHL debut during the 2013-2014 season. He would go on to score 6 goals and 9 points in 21 games with the Sabres that year. The following season, Flynn was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he has continued to develop into a solid NHL player
