2019 Bryant baseball roster

The 2019 Bryant baseball roster is loaded with talent. The team will be led by seniors Kyle Blum, Jordan George and Ryan Murphy Blum, George and Murphy are all four-year starters and have been key contributors to the team’s success over the last four years. They will be joined by junior catcher Matt O’Neill, who brings a wealth of experience to the position. Sophomores Jake Gustin, Kevin Kennedy and Max Schwartz all saw significant playing time as freshmen and will be looking to build on that success in 2019. Team captain

Bryant University announced today that senior outfielder Ryan Ward has been named team captain for the 2019 season.

Ward, who is entering his fourth season with the Bulldogs, has appeared in 122 career games, including making starts in each of the last two seasons. He is a two-time East Conference Scholar-Athlete and was named to the 2016 NEC Academic Honor Roll.

“I’m extremely honored to be named captain of this year’s team,” said Ward. “We have a great group of guys and I’m looking forward to leading them on and off the field.”

The Bulldogs are set to open their 2019 season on February 22 when they host Hartford for a three-game series

Key returners

The Bryant Baseball roster is loaded with key returners and new faces that should make an impact this season. Leading the way are senior captains Joe Devenney and Ryan Charles. Joe, a four-year starter at catcher, is coming off a season in which he batted .333 with four home runs and 34 RBI. Ryan, who will be Bryant’s starting pitcher this season, went 10-3 with a 3.27 ERA last year.

The Bulldogs also return two other key starters in junior outfielder Matt Albanese and sophomore infielder/outfielder Mike Tursi. Albanese batted .294 with five home runs and 30 RBI last season, while Tursi hit .287 with two home runs and 23 RBI.

Rounding out the group of returners are junior pitcher Steve Dalkiewicz, junior infielder/outfielder Connor Dent, sophomore catcher/infielder Robby Rinn and sophomore pitcher Brendan Neary. Dalkiewicz went 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA last year, while Dent hit .266 with one home run and 16 RBI. Rinn batted .208 with one home run and seven RBI last season, and Neary went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

Newcomers

The Bryant Baseball Team has a lot of new faces this season, with 12 newcomers on the roster. The Bulldogs will look to replace some key contributors from last year’s team, which finished 32-21 and made an appearance in the NCAA tournament

One of the most notable departures is pitcher Cody Carroll, who was drafted in the seventh round by the New York Yankees The team will also be without catcher Jordan Street, who signed with the Boston Red Sox as an undrafted free agent

The newcomers include a mix of freshmen and transferring upperclassmen. On the mound, the Bulldogs have added junior college transfer Matt Wallner and freshman Cole Stobbe. Wallner was named a Junior College All-American last season at Itawamba Community College where he went 9-1 with a 2.48 ERA. Stobbe was ranked as the No. 28 pitcher in the class of 2018 by perfect game

At catcher, freshman Luke Ritter and transfer Connor Lungowski will compete for playing time. Ritter is a highly touted recruit who was ranked as the No. 46 catcher in the class of 2018 by perfect game Lungowski comes to Bryant from SUNY Cortland, where he hit .267 with four Home Runs and 22 RBIs last season.

Infielder Jake Gustin is another newcomer who should make an immediate impact. Gustin transferred to Bryant from North Carolina State where he hit .276 with two home runs and 18 RBIs in 2017. He will compete for playing time at first base or as a designated hitter

Schedule

The Bryant baseball team has released their schedule for the upcoming season The team will open their season at home on February 15th against Fordham. The schedule includes 34 games, 17 of which will be played at home at the Conaty Park. The Bulldogs will face off against some tough competition this season, including Rhode Island St. John’s, Brown, and Dartmouth.
